An Israeli army unit crossed the barbed wire along the border with southern Lebanon on Wednesday, combing the area and firing smoke grenades, the state-run National News Agency reported.

NNA said the 12-member unit entered around 50 meters near the border town of Mais al-Jabal.

Israeli army intensified on Thursday patrols along the border with Lebanon and began erecting earth mounds in the occupied Shebaa Farms.

According to the state-run National News Agency, the Israeli army carried out patrols off al-Abbasiyeh and Ghajar, reaching all the way to Kfarshouba hills as soldiers monitored the area.

Two missiles fired from southern Lebanon exploded Sunday in northern Israel, prompting the Israeli military to hit back with three artillery shells, an army spokesman said.

"The Israeli artillery responded to rocket attacks from Lebanon against Israel that left no victims, targeting the area where these projectiles were fired from," an army spokesman told AFP.

Army Commander Gen. Jean Qahwaji warned on Monday that the military would respond in case the country is subjected to an Israeli military attack.

“The army has the full capability to respond to any Israeli aggression,” Qahwaji said after he inspected army units in Marjeyoun, which lies eight kilometers from the border with Israel.

Explosions were heard on Saturday near the border southern town of Maroun al-Ras from the Israeli side, the state-run National News Agency reported.

According to NNA, the bombing sounds were caused by drills carried out by Israeli troops.

Lebanese officials warned against Israel taking any “unilateral” steps in demarcating its maritime border in the areas near Lebanon, reported As Safir newspaper on Saturday.

Israel's Yedioth Ahronoth daily said that Israel is seeking to demarcate the maritime border in the area disputed with Lebanon through a draft law that will be proposed at the Knesset.

Lebanese and the Jewish state troops went on high alert on Friday after Israeli military tried to cut down a tree adjacent to the border fence from the town of Adaisseh, the state-run National News Agency reported.

UNIFIL peacekeepers swiftly deployed in the area to calm down both sides and carried out contacts with the Lebanese and Israeli military.

The Lebanese army on Monday described the deadly shooting on the border with Israel as "an individual act by one of the soldiers," noting that it will address the repercussions of the incident in coordination with the U.N. peacekeeping force.

“To clarify the shooting incident that happened overnight in the Ras al-Naqoura border area, the Army Command notes that what happened resulted from an individual act by one of the soldiers,” the army said in a statement.

A Lebanese soldier, who went missing after a shooting on an Israeli army unit on Sunday night, has returned to his post, the state-run National News Agency reported.

NNA and Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) said that the soldier reported to duty in Naqoura on Monday morning after hiding in a bush throughout the night.

Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta arrived Friday evening in Lebanon for a two-day official visit, Lebanon's National News Agency reported.

Letta was welcomed at the airport by caretaker Economy Minister Nicolas Nahhas, who represented caretaker PM Najib Miqati. Italian Ambassador to Lebanon Giuseppe Morabito and an embassy delegation were also present at the Rafik Hariri International Airport.
