Saudi Ambassador Ali Awadh Asiri stressed on Tuesday that Lebanon is “stronger than the scheming taking place against it.”

He stated: “The sides that are seeking to tarnish ties between Beirut and Riyadh do not represent all the Lebanese people.”

The cabinet voiced on Monday its unanimous and constant support to Arab countries, stressing Lebanon's Arab identity and its role as a founding members of the Arab League.

“We are committed to Arab consensus on the common issues," said a cabinet statement recited by Prime Minister Tammam Salam after an extraordinary session at the Grand Serail.

Thirty Saudis from a Shiite-majority region of the kingdom have gone on trial for allegedly spying for Iran, local media reported on Monday.

An Iranian and an Afghan are also accused, the reports said.

The cabinet is scheduled to convene on Monday to address the repercussions of Saudi Arabia's decision to halt its aid grant to the Lebanese army.

The government will hold its extraordinary meeting at 10:00 am on Monday.

Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awadh Asiri stated that it is now up to the Lebanese to cooperate to return the country “to its brothers who have long stood by it,” reported the pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat in wake of the kingdom's decision to halt aid to the Lebanese army and Internal Security Forces.

He told the daily: “The Lebanese should work against their country's slide to where it does not belong.”

Defense Minister Samir Moqbel was aware of Saudi Arabia's decision to halt aid to the Lebanese army and Internal Security Forces since Monday, reported the daily An Nahar on Sunday.

He told the daily that, at the time, he had not received official confirmation of the decision, but French figures had relayed the news to him on Monday when he was visiting Cyprus.

Saudi forces participating in any U.S.-led ground operation in Syria would focus on fighting the Islamic State group not President Bashar Assad, Saudi Arabia's foreign minister told AFP on Thursday.

Wissam al-Mahssanawi was found guilty of shooting dead Emirati national Mohammed al-Amiri and stealing his car, the ministry said in a statement carried by state news agency SPA.
