Hizbullah on Friday condemned the bomb attack earlier in the day on a French UNIFIL patrol in southern Lebanon, as the opposition March 14 camp claimed the incident was a message from Syria and that Hizbullah was "the messenger."

Opposition MP Marwan Hamadeh immediately blamed Damascus for the attack, saying it was orchestrated with the help of its Lebanese ally Hizbullah.

"It is clear that Syria was behind what happened today and the messenger was Hizbullah," Hamadeh told Agence France Presse. "Nothing happens in that region without Hizbullah's approval."

Special Tribunal for Lebanon Pre-Trial Judge Daniel Fransen is expected to issue an indictment in the assassination attempt of MP Marwan Hamadeh this month, informed sources said.

The sources told pan-Arab daily al-Hayat in remarks published Monday that the indictment will be issued before Christmas.

Tens of thousands of supporters of the opposition gathered Sunday in the northern city of Tripoli to denounce the Syrian regime and its Lebanese ally Hizbullah, under the slogan “The Fall of Weapons, The Spring of Independence.”

The rally organized by the Mustaqbal Movement, the main opposition party headed by ex-premier Saad Hariri, came amid mounting tension over the financing of the U.N.-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon and the revolt in neighboring Syria.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat is seeking to revive the “Democratic Gathering,” al-Liwaa newspaper reported on Wednesday.

“He is paving way to meet with ex-Prime Minister Saad Hariri,” sources told the daily.

MP Marwan Hamadeh revealed Thursday that ex-PM Saad Hariri was “unconvinced” with Premier Najib Miqati’s avowed commitment to funding the U.N.-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon.

“Hariri is unconvinced with Miqati’s commitment to funding the STL, but we in the March 14 camp have not ruled out such a possibility,” Hamadeh said in an interview on MTV, when asked about Wednesday’s meeting in Riyadh between Hariri and a March 14 delegation.

Hizbullah and al-Mustaqbal MPs wrangled on Monday at the human rights parliamentary committee meeting which witnessed curses, threats and counter accusations.

The committee was scheduled to discuss a report by Internal Security Forces chief Maj. Gen. Ashraf Rifi on the alleged involvement of the Syrian embassy in the disappearance of Syrian opposition activists in Lebanon.

Prominent journalist Ali Hamadeh, who is the brother of MP Marwan Hamadeh, has informed Lebanese authorities that he received an assassination threat on his website.

Hamadeh told security forces and the General Secretariat of the March 14 coalition that he received the death threat last Wednesday, media reports said.

Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour revealed on Saturday that a team has succeeded in devising a draft law on granting expatriates the right to vote in parliamentary elections.

He told Sawt al-Mada radio: “The file has been finalized and we will refer it to cabinet in the next few days.”

National Struggle Front parliamentary bloc leader MP Walid Jumblat is reportedly seeking to normalize ties with the Democratic Gathering bloc to confront the new electoral law that is based on proportional representation.

Al-Liwaa daily said Saturday that Social Affairs Ministers Wael Abou Faour, who is loyal to Jumblat, made a speech on Friday during an event organized by the lawmakers of the Progressive Socialist Party.
