Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's ruling coalition has tabled a motion to dissolve parliament and call an early general election on September 4, Israeli media reported on Wednesday.

They said the motion from the coalition's parliamentary chairman, Zeev Elkin, would be debated by the Knesset at the start of next week.

Jordan's King Abdullah II on Thursday warned Israel that building hotel rooms in annexed east Jerusalem would increase regional "tension and stability."

"Israel's continued policies and plans to build settlements and take unilateral measures in Palestinian territories, particularly Jerusalem, will hinder peace efforts and increase tension and instability in the region," a palace statement quoted the king as telling a U.S. congressional delegation.

Japan's Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba has urged Israel to exercise "patience" on Iran's nuclear program and give sanctions a chance to work, his spokesman said on Wednesday.

Gemba, who arrived in Israel on Tuesday, held a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is in mourning for the passing of his father, and also met with Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

Palestinian prisoners minister Issa Qaraqaa on Tuesday warned there would be a major backlash if any of the detainees on a mass hunger inside Israeli jails were to die.

"We will not accept our prisoners returning in coffins from the occupation's prisons," Qaraqaa told a 3,000-strong crowd demonstrating in solidarity with the prisoners in the West Bank city of Nablus.

Israel's National Security Adviser Yaakov Amidror is holding talks with European officials ahead of the next round of talks over Iran's disputed nuclear program, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The report, in the left-leaning Haaretz daily, said Amidror's trip was linked to Israeli concerns that the talks between Iran and the P5+1 group of world powers could ultimately end with a deal that would allow Tehran to continue enriching uranium.

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Monday he had little confidence that key talks between Iran and world powers would succeed in resolving the standoff over Tehran's disputed nuclear program.

While Barak said the barrage of international sanctions imposed on Iran has clearly worked and forced the Islamic Republic to sit down and talk, he was not hopeful that the talks would lead anywhere.

The Israeli military on Monday began building a wall that will run several kilometers along part of its border with Lebanon, a military spokeswoman told Agence France Presse.

"This construction, which began on Monday, is being carried out in coordination with UNIFIL (the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) and the Lebanese army. The wall is intended to avoid frictions on the border," she said.

Former chief U.N. investigator Nick Kaldas stressed that there is solid evidence and concrete facts in the assassination case of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

The STL “isn’t politicized and the case is based on concrete evidence,” Kaldas told An Nahar newspaper on Monday.

Israel was on Sunday buzzing with the possibility of an early election after a key partner in the ruling right-wing coalition threatened to pull out, and the opposition called for an autumn vote.

Fresh speculation about an early general election came as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fought off sharp criticism from a former top security chief over his policies on Iran's nuclear program and on peace with the Palestinians.

Israel's former security chief Yuval Diskin on Saturday accused top ministers of misleading the public about the chances any pre-emptive military action against Iran's nuclear facilities succeeding.

Diskin singled out Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Ehud Barak for criticism over their increasingly bellicose comments in the standoff with Iran over its nuclear program.
