United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Commander Maj.-Gen. Paolo Serra voiced his support to the wall that Israel is building along the Lebanese border.

“This project was designed to improve the security in the area and therefore, we cannot allow a de-conflicting project to become a source of conflict in one of the most sensitive areas,” Serra said on Wednesday after chairing a tripartite meeting with senior Lebanese and Israeli security officials at the U.N. headquarters at Ras al-Naqoura crossing.

Qassem: Hariri Not Sole Representative of Sunnis, May 7 was Armed Clash between 2 Parties

Hizbullah Deputy Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem on Wednesday stressed that former premier Saad Hariri was “not the sole representative” of the Sunni sect in Lebanon, noting that the May 7, 2008 events were “an armed clash between two parties.”

“We must work for the sake of Islamic unity and national unity,” Qassem said, stressing that “the disputes are not religious … but rather political, in which the religious slogan is being used for incitement due to their failure to propagate their (political) vision.”

Israel Court Orders Palestinians out of Jerusalem Home

Israel's Supreme Court on Monday ordered two Palestinians to leave their properties in the Muslim Quarter of Jerusalem's Old City, ruling that the properties were owned by Jews, their lawyer told Agence France Presse.

Lawyer Mohammed Dahleh said the court had rejected his clients' appeals, and ruled that Ghazi Zalum's house and Ismail Wazwaz's shop had been owned by Jews in the period before the establishment of Israel in 1948, with the properties later falling into Jordan's hands.

Israel Court Rejects Hunger Strikers' Appeals

Israel's Supreme Court on Monday rejected an appeal by two Palestinian prisoners who have been on hunger strike for 69 days in protest at being held without charge, their lawyer told Agence France Presse.

"The Supreme Court refused both appeals," Jamil Khatib said of the move by Bilal Diab, 27, and Thaer Halahla, 34, who had appealed to Israel's highest court on Thursday to end the administrative detention orders under which they are being held.

UNIFIL Urges Israel to Stop Building Wall, Lebanese Officials Discuss Violations

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) demanded Israel to stop the building of a wall along the Lebanese-Israeli border after the Israelis removed the barbed wire without putting back any barriers, the National News Agency reported on Monday.

The UNIFIL informed the Israelis that the building of the wall can resume after restoring the barriers along the Fatima Gate in southern Lebanon.
