Almost 500 Rohingya Rescued Off Indonesia

Rescuers Sunday brought ashore 469 migrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh after their wooden boat arrived off Aceh in northwest Indonesia, an official said.

"We received a report from fishermen this morning that there were boat people stranded in the waters off north Aceh," Aceh provincial search and rescue chief Budiawan told AFP.

'Notorious' Human Traffickers Killed by Bangladeshi Police

Three people-smugglers accused of trafficking thousands of people were killed in a gunfight with Bangladeshi police Friday, officers said, days after dozens of migrant remains were found in Thailand.

Police said the three "notorious" traffickers had died after being shot during an anti-trafficking raid in the southern coastal town of Teknaf in the Cox's Bazar district, close to the border with Myanmar.

Authorities in Thailand uncovered a mass grave in an abandoned jungle camp Friday believed to contain the remains of migrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh, a grisly find in a region notorious for people-smuggling routes.
