A 40-year-old Bangladeshi woman cut off a man's penis during an alleged attempted rape and took it to a police station as evidence, police in a remote part of Bangladesh said Monday.

The woman, a married mother of three, was attacked while she was sleeping in her shanty in Jhalakathi district, some 200 kilometers (120 miles) south of Dhaka, on Saturday night, officers said.

Police in Bangladesh raised the death toll from a ferry accident in the east of the country to 32 on Friday, with more bodies expected to be recovered after rescue workers raised the sunken vessel.

Passengers were asleep on the boat when it collided on Thursday with the wreck of a cargo ship that had sunk a few days earlier in the river Meghna at Sarail, 90 kilometers from Dhaka.

At least 26 people, mostly women and children, drowned and scores of others were missing after a passenger river ferry sank in eastern Bangladesh on Thursday, police said.

Passengers were asleep on the ferry when it hit the wreck of a cargo ship that sank a few days ago in the river Meghna at Sarail, 90 kilometers from Dhaka, local police officer Abbas Uddin said.
