Conflicting reports emerged on Wednesday over threats made by Electricite du Liban's contract workers to set the company’s offices in Mar Mikhael on fire if their demands were not carried out.

According to the National News agency the contract workers urged the company’s employees in Beirut to leave the building before 11:00 a.m.

They warned that they would set the offices on fire if the parliament’s bureau committee and the administrative and justice committee didn’t approve their full-time employment.

MTV reported that the contract workers also warned the company’s general manager, Kamal al-Hayek, against entering the building.

However, EDL contract workers denied to Voice of Lebanon radio (100.5) all the “rumors,” stressing that their strike will remain peaceful.

The Internal Security Forces swiftly deployed near the company in Beirut, reports said.

EDL contract employees have been protesting for the past two weeks against the cabinet’s failure to approve their full-time employment draft law.

The Committee of EDL Contract Workers and Collectors said in a statement that some employees have been contract workers for over 20 years.

The (de)volution of Lebanon: when you don't get what you want, threaten and if that doesn't help, resort to violence.
Don't forget to brag about it and teach your kids how to do it

when Bassil ignored these employees, kicking them out of their jobs, he forgot they are human beings who have families to support.

What amazes me is that "rotational" defense that M8 and M14 followers adopt. So if the ministry is now with an M8 guy, he gets the support of M8 followers. If not, he gets cursed and vice-versa.

Any chance you M8 and M14 sheep just wake up?

All those "ministers" have been rotating on these chairs for 20+ years, and every new minister blames the predecessor.

If you really want to make a difference, stop spending time on these comment boards cursing and badmouthing each other and turn your head to your "beloved" leaders, ask them to be Lebanese first and tribal later.

It's really enough! And I speak for the majority, the real majority, the non-M8 and non-M14 who is sick and tired of the mutual accusations between these two groups and their followers.
