Tunisia PM to Reshuffle Cabinet Saturday

Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali is due to announce on Saturday the results of lengthy consultations on a reshuffle of Tunisia's cabinet, a government statement said.

Jebali, of the ruling Islamist party Ennahda, "will make a statement to reporters on the result of consultations with the political parties on a government reshuffle, at 1:00 pm (1400 GMT) on Saturday," the statement said.

HRW: Tunisia Draft Charter Lacking on Rights

Tunisia's draft constitution still lacks full provision for human rights despite making some progress, Human Rights Watch said on Wednesday in a letter to the National Constituent Assembly.

The U.S.-based watchdog said that it wrote urging the interim parliament to "amend those articles of the second draft of the constitution that risk undermining human rights."

Tunisian President to Visit Gaza Next Month

Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki will make his first visit to Gaza on February 9, officials from the Hamas government told Agence France Presse on Sunday.

"Tunisia President Marzouki will carry out a very important visit to the Gaza Strip on February 9," Hamas official Ghazi Hammad said, without giving details of the president's itinerary, or who would be accompanying him.

Tunisia Opposes Non-African Intervention in Mali

Tunisia's foreign minister said on Tuesday that his country was in principle opposed to all non-African military operations on the continent, as France pushed ahead with its assault on armed Islamists in Mali.

"We believe that the problems arising in Africa must be resolved within an African framework," Rafik Abdessalem said, addressing the French military campaign against al-Qaida-linked Islamist groups in Mali that began on Friday.

Famed Tunisia Mausoleum Ravaged by Fire

The mausoleum in Sidi Bou Said, a prime Tunisian tourism destination, has been ravaged by fire in what is thought to have been an arson attack which the presidency on Sunday denounced as a criminal act.

"This crime against our culture and history must not go unpunished," a presidency statement said, urging police to "spare no efforts in arresting the criminals" who set alight the mausoleum on the outskirts of Tunis on Saturday.
