Fransen Holds Hearing to Examine Which Documents Bellemare Can Give to Sayyed

Special Tribunal for Lebanon Pre-Trial Judge Daniel Fransen on Tuesday held a confidential hearing relating to the request by former General Security chief Maj. Gen. Jamil Sayyed to obtain documents that relate to his file and which he believes are in the possession of STL Prosecutor Daniel Bellemare, STL’s press office announced.

“The hearing examined which of these documents the Prosecutor should hand over to Mr. Sayyed,” the press office noted in a statement.

Cassese Issues Direction on Role of Defense Office Head during Court Proceedings

The President of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, Judge Antonio Cassese, has issued a practice direction on the role of the head of the STL Defense Office, STL's press office announced Thursday.

"This is a guideline for conduct during court proceedings and it was written because of the novelty of the defense office," the press office clarified in a communiqué.

Moussawi: March 14 Camp Too Weak to Be Able to Materialize Mottos

Loyalty to Resistance bloc MP Nawwaf al-Moussawi on Sunday noted that "the March 14 camp does not aim through its campaign to materialize the mottos it is calling for, as it knows that it is too weak to implement them."

Their "real motto is 'either we rule or we sow destruction by inciting sectarian strife,'" Moussawi charged.

Syrian Semi-Official Daily Voices Support for Miqati

Syria's daily Al-Watan, which is close to the Damascus government, on Wednesday expressed its support for Prime Minister-designate Najib Miqati and said he would bring change to the region.

The newspaper added that Lebanon had finally "uncovered the plot" hatched by the West to exploit the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) investigating the murder of former premier Rafik Hariri.

Assiri: Saudi-Syrian Initiative Not Linked to Indictment

Saudi Ambassador Ali Awad Assiri said Monday that the Saudi-Syrian initiative aimed at ending the Lebanese crisis was not linked to the indictment that will be issued by the international tribunal in ex-Premier Rafik Hariri’s assassination case.

“The Saudi-Syrian initiative … is ongoing and will continue. It has nothing to do with a decision or the release of an indictment,” Assiri told Voice of Lebanon radio station.
