Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi called on the political arch-foes to take “courageous” stances before the upcoming parliamentary session aimed at electing a president.

“Holding onto personal opinions and calling on the rivals to agree with them compelled the country to fall into the trap of not electing a new head of state and to obstruct the parliament's quorum,” al-Rahi said during Sunday's sermon in his summer seat of Diman.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea accused some political powers of intimidating Christians in Lebanon with the threat of Islamist movements in the region, reported the pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat on Saturday.

He told the daily: “The LF has been seeking in recent weeks to reassure the people of the contrary. The developments in Syria and Iraq cannot be replicated in Lebanon for several reasons.”

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea denied on Wednesday that he had suffered a heart attack as some media outlets suggested.

"I reassure everyone that I am in good health and doing my work as usual at the LF headquarters in Maarab,” Geagea told MTV in the afternoon.

Progressive Socialist Party chief Walid Jumblat renewed his call on rival Lebanese parties to unite to confront the danger of terrorists and salvage Lebanon.

Jumblat said that he agreed with Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah during their meeting last month that the Islamic State's threat to the region puts Lebanon in danger.

Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi has suggested to bring together Lebanon's top Christian political leaders in Rome but his proposal was rejected, An Nahar newspaper reported on Thursday.

Al-Rahi wanted to put the officials under “moral pressure to convince them to agree on a candidate for the presidency and agree on holding the elections,” the daily said.

Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea on Wednesday rejected any exchange between Roumieh inmates or other extremist detainees and soldiers kidnapped during the clashes of the northeastern town of Arsal, declaring that he supports a military operation to free the abducted troops.

Geagea also announced that he rejects extending the parliament's term.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea condemned on Tuesday the failure to elect a president for the tenth time after the lack of quorum at parliament, holding the March 8 camp responsible for it.

He said during a press conference: “The elections will be held as soon as MP Michel Aoun alters his position on the polls.”

Speaker Nabih Berri adjourned on Tuesday the parliamentary session aimed at electing a president to September 2 over lack of quorum caused by boycotting blocs.

The tenth round that was scheduled to take place on Tuesday met the fate of its predecessors after only around 55 MPs attended the session.

Progressive Socialist Party chief Walid Jumblat said on Sunday that it was a shame for the Lebanese not to be able to elect a new president, calling for another extension of parliament's term.

“It is a shame that we the politicians failed to elect a president,” Jumblat said during a visit to several towns in Aley.

Lebanese Force leader Samir Geagea rejected any armed presence for Syrians on Lebanese territories, considering that the situation in the northeastern town of Arsal will deteriorate as long as the conflict in neighboring country Syria is ongoing and Hizbullah is engaged in the war.

Geagea wondered in an interview with Free Lebanon radio why the army doesn't prevent Hizbullah fighters from entering Syria.
