Hundreds of Palestinians and peace activists on Friday held a protest at the West Bank village Susiya, which Israel has recently served demolition orders.

An Agence France Presse correspondent said over 500 people demonstrated at the site, located in the southernmost part of the West Bank, carrying signs against the evacuation and demolition of the 50 structures comprising the hamlet.

One Palestinian was killed and two were wounded on Friday, one seriously, when Israeli warplanes struck east of Al-Bureij in the central Gaza Strip, medics said.

Unknown attackers set fire to a West Bank mosque and sprayed it with Hebrew graffiti early on Tuesday, in an incident that bore the hallmarks of an attack by extremist Jewish settlers.

Militants from the armed wing of Gaza's ruling Hamas movement on Tuesday said they had fired 10 Grad rockets at Israel in a rare show of force after Israeli raids killed six.

"This is our answer to the Zionist crimes. It will continue if they carry out more strikes on Gaza," a statement said, with a spokesman confirming it was the first time they had fired such longer-range rockets at Israel since April 2011.

Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired eight mortar shells at Israeli troops on the other side of the border fence on Sunday but no soldiers were injured, an Israeli army spokeswoman told Agence France Presse, after two Palestinians were injured by Israeli army fire.

She said that troops returned fire at militants in the central part of the enclave.

Palestinians are pushing for full representation as a state at the U.N. Rio+20 summit on sustainable development, but the issue will have to be decided by world leaders next week, according to officials.

"We expect full-status participation because we already have it in UNESCO and we have ties with Brazil (the host country which recognizes the Palestinian state) and with more than 130 countries," Palestinian ambassador Ibrahim Alzeben told Agence France Presse.

Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat will meet here next week with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a bid to try to breathe new life into stalled peace talks, a U.S. official said Friday.

Clinton had already met with Israeli negotiator Yitzhak Molho and "she'll see Erakat next week," State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said.

The Palestinians plan to go ahead with their bid to put one of Christianity's holiest sites on UNESCO's World Heritage List despite a negative report by experts, their envoy to the body said Thursday.

Ambassador Elias Sanbar said the report on the Church of the Nativity was "biased" and "politicized" and was influenced by the United States and Israel, which sought to block the Palestinians from joining UNESCO last October.

The Vatican's position "is unchanged" on the annexation of east Jerusalem, a Holy See negotiator said Tuesday, amid concern among Palestinian officials about possible concessions.

"The Holy See's position has not changed," negotiator Ettore Balestrero told the Vatican Radio after biannual talks between Israel and the Holy See on the status of Catholic Church property.

Britain on Tuesday announced a 100 million pound (124 million euro) aid package to support Palestinian refugees in the Middle East for the next three years.

The British embassy in Amman said International Development Minister Alan Duncan made the announcement after a visit to the Baqaa Palestinian refugee camp near the Jordanian capital.
