Abbas Seeks Urgent Aid on Saudi Visit

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas visited Saudi Arabia and met King Abdullah on Friday to seek urgent aid for his administration as the Muslim holy month of Ramadan nears.

The leaders, who met in the Red Sea city of Jeddah, discussed "the financial crisis of the Palestinian Authority (PA) which will no longer be able to pay its employees as Ramadan approaches," the Palestinians' top diplomat in Riyadh said.

Israeli Troops Shoot Dead Palestinian in North Gaza

A Palestinian was killed on Friday when Israeli troops opened fire at him in an area near the border in the northern Gaza Strip, medical sources said.

Ashraf al-Qudra, a spokesman for Gaza's emergency services, confirmed a man in his early 20s was shot dead by troops near the border, but said they had not yet been able to retrieve his body.

Family Accuses Israel of Poisoning Arafat with Polonium

Israel poisoned the late Yasser Arafat with the lethal radioactive substance polonium, a nephew of the veteran Palestinian leader alleged on Thursday.

"We accuse Israel of killing Yasser Arafat by poisoning him with that lethal substance," Nasser al-Qidwa told Agence France Presse, referring to polonium, traces of which were recently found on clothing worn by the ailing leader.

Yasser Arafat's widow is to file a lawsuit in France following allegations the Palestinian leader died at a Paris hospital in 2004 after being radioactively poisoned, her lawyers said on Tuesday.

"Mrs. Suha Arafat, widow of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, has asked a Parisian legal practice to file suit against an unnamed person under French jurisdiction," lawyer Pierre-Olivier Sur's practice said in a statement.

Tunisia Wants Int'l Probe into Arafat Death

Tunisia on Thursday called for an urgent meeting of the Arab League and an international probe into the 2004 death of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat over suggestions that he might have been poisoned.

"We call for an urgent meeting of Arab League foreign ministers and the creation of an international committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death" of Arafat, Foreign Minister Rafik Abdessalem told private radio station Mosaique FM.
