Syria is to hold a presidential election on May 26, the parliament speaker announced Sunday, the country's second in the shadow of civil war, seen as likely to keep President Bashar Al-Assad in power.

Israel's military on Saturday said it had conducted airstrikes against targets in the Gaza Strip following a rocket attack from the Palestinian enclave, in the second such exchange in as many days.

Syria on Wednesday angrily rejected a global watchdog's report that found it had used chemical weapons on a rebel-held town in 2018, dismissing the charge as "fabricated."
