Two Dead in Gun Attack on S. Korea Embassy in Libya

Gunmen killed two people and wounded a third in an attack at the South Korean embassy in the Libyan capital Tripoli on Sunday which was claimed by the Islamic State group.

The gunmen opened fire on the embassy compound from a passing car, killing two people and wounding a third, a Libyan interior ministry spokesman told AFP.

Violence Flares in Libya ahead of U.N.-backed Peace Talks

The United Nations on Saturday condemned a fresh outbreak of violence in Libya, just as rival factions prepare to resume talks on forming a government to halt the country's conflict.

Pro-government forces clashed Friday and Saturday with fighters from the Islamist-backed Fajr Libya militia alliance in Aziziya, a town 35 kilometres (22 miles) west of Tripoli.

Libyan Lawmakers Heading to Washington

A delegation of Libyan lawmakers recognized by the international community will head to Washington next week as part of U.N. efforts to create a stable unity government in the war-torn country, the U.S. State Department said Friday.

"We look forward to discussing their work with the U.N. Special Representative (Bernardino) Leon in support of the U.N.-led process to constitute a national unity government," State Department spokesman Jeff Rathke said about the delegation from Libya's House of Representatives.

EU Warns against Sabotage of Libya Talks

The EU warned Friday that anyone sabotaging talks on forming a Libya national unity government will be held responsible by an international community desperate to get the rival factions to agree a deal.

"All groups in Libya should refrain from actions that increase tensions at a time when Libyan parties are engaged in a decisive stage of the political dialogue," European Union foreign affairs head Federica Mogherini said.

Customs Foil Operation to Smuggle Two Tons of Drugs to Egypt

The Customs' anti-narcotics unit seized overnight a vegetable truck loaded with drugs, As Safir newspaper reported on Friday.
