Aoun: Political Accusation Must Stop, No Link between Crime, Govt. Departure

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun on Tuesday reiterated his condemnation of the assassination of Intelligence Bureau chief Maj. Gen. Wissam al-Hasan, but stressed that “political accusation” must stop.

“Accusations must stop because there is nothing called 'political accusation,' which is something outrageous,” Aoun said after the weekly meeting of the Change and Reform bloc, referring to the March 14's camp accusation that the Syrian regime was behind the crime.

Prosecutor Files Lawsuit against Persons Unknown in Attempt on Aoun's Life

South Lebanon Prosecutor Judge Samih al-Hajj on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against persons unknown on charges of trying to assassinate Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun in the coastal city of Sidon in September.

Media reports said Aoun's convoy came under gunfire in Sidon on September 22 while he was returning from Jezzine.

Miqati in Saudi: I'm Doing What My Conscience Obligates Me to Do, Protecting Lebanon from Vacuum

Prime Minister Najib Miqati on Tuesday stressed that he is doing what his conscience obligates him to do – “protecting Lebanon from political vacuum and divisions,” amid calls by the March 14 forces for him to resign.

“With my arrival in the holy city of Medina, I will start praying to God Almighty to protect Lebanon and the Lebanese from any evil,” Miqati said on the social networking website Twitter, after he arrived in Saudi Arabia to perform the hajj pilgrimage.

U.N.: Syrian Refugees in Lebanon Top 100,000

More than 100,000 Syrians have fled their war-torn country for neighboring Lebanon, itself hit by rising tensions in recent days, the U.N. refugee agency said Tuesday.

"Lebanon has become the third country in the region to see its population of registered Syrian refugees and people waiting for registration (exceed) the 100,000 mark," the UNHCR said in a statement.

Opposition MPs Receive 'Syria Threats' by SMS

March 14 camp MP Ammar Houri revealed that he and four colleagues were texted death threats from a Syrian telephone number before and after Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau head Wissam al-Hasan's assassination on Friday.

"On the eve of the attack, we received an SMS from a Syrian number that read: 'Sons of bitches, we will get you one by one,'" Ammar Houri said on television on Monday night.
