Ivory Coast's health minister announced the country's first confirmed coronavirus during a daily briefing Sunday on the outbreak there.

Ivory Coast authorities ordered three days of mourning and tightened security at public places and at its borders Monday as the death toll from the first jihadist attack on its soil climbed to 18.

"Their aim was to frighten us, we will not let ourselves be scared," said Interior Minister Hamed Bakayoko after emergency government talks.

The first witness in the trial of former Ivorian president Laurent Gbagbo gave a harrowing account Wednesday of being shot at by troops loyal to the ex-leader during an unarmed march after 2010 polls.

"I was dragging my leg and saw that the bone was sticking out," the first prosecution witness identified only as P-547 told the International Criminal Court.

Former Ivorian youth militia boss Charles Ble Goude denied Tuesday any role in deadly post-poll violence that ravaged his country in 2010 and 2011, saying he had "no blood" on his hands.

"When it comes to my fellow citizens, I do not have a single drop of blood on my hands," Ble Goude told the International Criminal Court, where he and ex-president Laurent Gbagbo face charges of crimes against humanity arising from the bloodshed in the west African nation.

Ivory Coast's parliamentary speaker, who is at the center of a diplomatic dispute between his country and France over a court investigation, left Paris for Abidjan on Wednesday evening, a spokesman said.

Guillaume Soro, who is also a former rebel chief, had been summoned by a Paris judge in connection with a complaint filed by Michel Gbagbo, son of former Ivorian president Laurent Gbagbo, who was ousted in 2011 and is currently awaiting trial in The Hague.

Ivory Coast's President Alassane Ouattara was sworn in Tuesday for a second five-year term after winning re-election in the nation's first peaceful vote in more than a decade.

Senegal's President Macky Sall, chief of the ECOWAS regional bloc, and Benin's President Thomas Boni Yayi were among top officials watching as Ouattara, dressed in a dark suit, formally returned to power at a ceremony in Abidjan.
