Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired two rockets into southern Israel Friday without causing any casualties or damage, a spokeswoman for the Israeli army said.

"Two rockets were fired toward the Eshkol area. They did not cause injuries or damage," the spokeswoman told Agence France Presse.

Pro-Syrian Lebanese parties and Palestinian factions are organizing a rally in areas bordering Israel on Earth Day in Lebanon on March 30, al-Liwaa daily reported Friday.

The newspaper said the Baath party and the Syrian Social National Party, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command, Fatah al-Intifada and other factions are coordinating to mark Earth Day.

Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired a mortar into southern Israel Thursday morning which exploded without causing casualties or damage, a police spokesman said.

"A mortar was fired in the general direction of a kibbutz, it didn't cause injuries or damage," Micky Rosenfeld told Agence France Presse.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon conducted patrols along the Blue Line at the Wazzani-Ghajar area on Thursday after an Israeli army unit crossed the electronic fence and advanced towards the banks of the Wazzani River.

UNIFIL’s Spanish contingent intensified its patrols in the area and monitored the movement of Israeli troops on the other side of the border, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Israel's leaders are "wantonly disregarding" the country's ability to cope with a war as tensions rise over a possible confrontation with Iran, an MP in charge of home front preparations has told Agence France Presse.

Zeev Bielsky, who heads the parliamentary committee for home front preparedness, said there was a dire shortage of gas masks ready for use in the event of a war.

The United States offered Israel advanced weaponry in return for it committing not to attack Iran's nuclear facilities this year, Israeli daily Maariv reported on Thursday.

Citing unnamed Western diplomats and intelligence sources, the report said that during Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Washington this week, the U.S. administration offered to supply Israel with advanced bunker-busting bombs and long-range refueling planes.

An Israeli force comprising 10 troops on Wednesday left its military post in the occupied town of Ghajar and advanced towards the recreational parks on the bank of the Wazzani River in Lebanese territory, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported.

“The force crossed the electronic fence and stationed itself in the area located between the fence and the virtual Blue Line,” NNA said.

Hamas will not be drawn into any conflict between Israel and Iran, a senior official of the Palestinian Islamist movement which rules Gaza said on Wednesday.

"Iran does not need Hamas to respond to Israel in the event of an attack, because it has enormous military capabilities at its disposal, which allow it to act without us," Ahmed Youssef, a counselor to the Hamas foreign ministry, told Agence France Presse.

Amman is seeking ways of coaxing Israeli and Palestinian negotiators to return to talks, Jordan's top diplomat said on Wednesday after meeting Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas.

Negotiators from both sides held five rounds of "exploratory talks" in January under the sponsorship of Jordan and the Middle East peacemaking Quartet with the aim of finding a way back to direct negotiations which collapsed in 2010.

Israeli troops entered the northern Gaza Strip on Wednesday morning, sealing the Erez border crossing between the territory and Israel, Hamas officials said.

"Occupation forces moved into the northern Gaza Strip and began bulldozing work and closed the Erez crossing to travellers," a statement from the Hamas interior ministry said.
