Chad's brutal political police, blamed for countless atrocities under the regime of ex-president Hissene Habre, acted entirely under the orders of the dictator, his trial in Senegal heard on Wednesday.

The 73-year-old, who fled to Dakar after being deposed in 1990, is being prosecuted in his adoptive country for war crimes, crimes against humanity and torture during eight years of repression.

Algeria, Niger and Chad on Sunday stressed the urgency of creating a national unity government to solve the conflict in their neighbor Libya.

Algeria's African affairs ministers and the foreign ministers of Niger and Chad stressed the importance of such a government "to preserve Libya's unity and territorial integrity and its people's cohesion."

The Senegalese court trying ex-Chadian dictator Hissene Habre for atrocities has received a complaint of rights abuses against his successor, it said on Thursday.

Idriss Deby, who overthrew Habre in 1990, has been accused of "genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and torture, at the initiative of some victims," lawyer Mbaye Jacques Ndiaye told radio station RFI.

Chad executed 10 alleged members of Nigeria-based Islamist group, Boko Haram, by firing squad Saturday, a day after they were found guilty of a double suicide killing that left 38 people dead in the capital N'Djamena.

"They were executed this morning on a shooting ground north of N'Djamena," a judicial source told Agence France Presse. The report was confirmed by a security source who asked not to be identified.

Chad's President Idriss Deby declared Tuesday that efforts to combat neighboring Nigeria's Boko Haram jihadists had succeeded in "decapitating" the group and would be wrapped up "by the end of the year".

Addressing reporters in the capital N'Djamena on the 55th anniversary of Chad's independence from France, Deby said: "Boko Haram is decapitated. There are little groups (of Boko Haram members) scattered throughout east Nigeria, on the border with Cameroon. It is within our power to definitively overcome Boko Haram."

A female suicide bomber travelling on a tricycle blew herself up Friday at a market in the northeast Nigerian city of Maiduguri, witnesses said, as Nigeria and its neighbors finalize a force to combat Boko Haram jihadists.

"There had been a suicide attack on Gamboru market this morning. It was a female suicide bomber. The attack happened around 6:30 am (0530 GMT) as the grocers were arriving in the market which starts early," said Babakura Kolo, a vigilante helping the Nigerian army combat Boko Haram jihadists in the region.

Former Chadian dictator Hissene Habre was forcibly brought to a court in Senegal Tuesday, where judges adjourned his trial until September 7 to let appointed lawyers prepare his defense.

Prison guards brought Habre, dressed in a white robe and turban, into the special court in the capital Dakar, an AFP reporter saw.

More than a quarter-century after his blood-soaked reign came to an end, former Chadian dictator Hissene Habre went on trial in a Senegalese court on Monday in what is seen as a test case for African justice.

Once dubbed "Africa's Pinochet", the 72-year-old has been in custody in Senegal since his arrest in June 2013 at the home he shared in an affluent Dakar suburb with his wife and children.
