Handwritten Godard 'Contempt' Script Sells for 144,000 Euros

A unique handwritten script for French-Swiss filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard's New Wave classic "Contempt" has sold at auction for 144,300 euros ($186,800), seller Artcurial said Wednesday.
The 1963 script, made up of 59 pages written by Godard, sold on Tuesday for well above its estimate of between 60,000 and 80,000 euros.
It was snapped up by a French collector, who beat out another Frenchman and an American at the auction, Artcurial said.
The script had belonged to a photographer of French screen icon Brigitte Bardot, one of the stars of the 1963 film which is considered a groundbreaking masterpiece.
