An inactive bomb was found on Tuesday in the Beirut neighborhood of Tariq al-Jadideh.

“An inactive bomb was discovered near Hansel stores in Afif al-Tibi Street in Tariq al-Jadideh,” al-Jadeed television reported.

Meanwhile, MTV said “a bottle filled with birdshot pellets and containing a fuse was found in Afif al-Tibi Street in Tariq al-Jadideh and security forces cordoned off the area ahead of the arrival of a military expert to examine it.”

Later on Tuesday, the National News Agency said the military expert gave the all clear after the explosive turned out to be inactive.

In December, security forces discovered a 120 mm mortar shell connected to a timer in a garbage dumpster in Tariq al-Jadideh.

Mustaqbal bloc MP Ammar Houri said at the time that he was headed to a memorial service at a Tariq al-Jadideh mosque, which is located about 100 meters from where the mortar was found.

“We will await the investigations and I urge the concerned agencies to reveal the details of the incident because it may have been an assassination attempt against me,” he added.
