Touring Puppet Show to Perform in Beirut’s Parks
A touring puppet show for the entire family, organized by Dar Onboz and Collectif Kahraba will bring public parks and squares to life through art and culture to the young and old with mobile shows, music, puppets, books, games and storytelling on three consecutive weekends.
The event, called "Nhar W Layl/ Day and Night", will present two performances free of charge to ensure accessibility to the largest number of people in three different locations: Sanayeh park will host the event on May 21-22, Sioufi park on May 28-29, and Horsh Snawbar park on June 4-5.
“We believe that art and culture are development tools. Creativity is an empowering medium to develop the imagination, foster joy, encourage critical thinking, allow for larger spirits of dialogue and cultural exchange, bringing people of all walks of life together and what a better place to do it than public places in collaboration with municipalities” organizers said.
Dar Onboz and Collectif Kahraba have been working for four years on bringing art to the world of children and parents.
“Thus, thanks to decentralizing and moving out of Beirut we can reach readers and viewers all over Lebanon while building a wide network of partners,” they stated.
“We go to people bringing them high quality work having the conviction that art and culture are the best means to unleash hope and imagination,” they added.
Organizers noted that “in each area we would like to invite people to share two different moments of theater and poetry both related to the Lebanese oral tradition published in book format by Dar Onboz:
-an interactive puppet performance during the day based on nursery rhymes
-a shadow puppet performance during the night weaving a modern folktale”
The scenography and all the materials for both performances have been conceived to be easily dismountable and movable with no special requirements and no damage to the space used.
