Two Wounded in Scuffle at Lebanese University Humanities Faculty

Two youths were wounded on Tuesday in a dispute that broke out at the Humanities Faculty of the Lebanese University in al-Fanar district north of Beirut, reported the National News Agency.

It said that Lebanese Forces students were distributing candy on the occasion of the holiday at the entrance of the university campus when the dispute broke out.

A verbal dispute erupted when a car, carrying two passengers identified as W.K. And A.S., refused to accept the candy, stated NNA.

W.K., who is not a student at the Lebanese University, soon opened fire during the dispute.

Two injuries were then reported when a youth stabbed others with a sharp object.

LBCI television later said that one of the wounded is in critical condition.

It added that the clash erupted between LF and Free Patriotic Movement supporters.

Head of the FPM student body at the university told LBCI that the clash broke out when LF members entered the campus and began assaulting people, resulting in two injuries.

One of the wounded, Charbel Meherbi, is in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the head of the LF student body at the Lebanese University, Nadim Yazbeck, said that the clash began as LF students were distributing a cake on the occasion of the holiday season.

Soon after, youths in a car approached the LF students and requested that they halt their activity, threatening to shoot them, reported LBCI.

FPM and Marada Movement students soon headed outside the campus while brandishing sticks and the clash soon ensued.
