Syrian authorities handed over to Lebanon on Sunday the bodies of four fighters killed in an ambush by regime troops in the town of Tall Kalakh in the second round of such transfer.
The bodies, which were transferred in four ambulances from the Arida border crossing in northern Lebanon, were identified to be as that of three Lebanese - Mohammed al-Ayyoubi, Ahmed Nabhan, Bilal al-Ghoul - and Palestinian Mohammed al-Hajj.
The families of the Lebanese men said in a statement that their funeral will be held after noon prayers at al-Mansouri Grand Mosque in the northern city of Tripoli.
Sidon's Salafist cleric Sheikh Ahmed al-Asir was on hand during the handover.
A delegation from Dar al-Fatwa, including the director of its public relations department, Sheikh Shadi al-Masri, was also there as representative of Mufti Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani.
Sources close to Prime Minister Najib Miqati said in remarks published in An Nahar Sunday that Syria was going to hand over all the corpses but decided to transfer the bodies in separate rounds pending the results of DNA tests.
Last week, Syrian authorities handed over the corpses of three of the Salafist fighters.
Reports said six bodies remain with Syrian authorities. But it is not yet clear when they will be sent back to Lebanon.
The General Security Department said in a statement that its chief Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim will continue his contacts with Syrian authorities in coordination with the Lebanese foreign ministry to complete the transfer of the remaining bodies.
While there is still discrepancy on the number of fighters who infiltrated Tall Kalakh, media reports have said that several of them sought refuge with the rebel Free Syrian Army while around three others were arrested by regime troops and will be tried in Damascus.
The families of the men had warned of staging rallies across Lebanon on Monday if the authorities failed to retrieve the bodies of the fighters over the weekend.
They had also demanded the expulsion of Syrian Ambassador Ali Abdul Karim Ali and described the diplomat as a “criminal.”

Interfere in a war that isn't yours and pay the ultimate price. The families of these wanna be jihadists should be staging protests to find out who and how their kids were recruited.

I hope they send more to die in Syria so our army dont have to deal with them.

god bless 10452

All of tripoli should go to syria where they belong. Beb el tebbeneh nawar can join the FSA and the jabal me7sen can join the army. I have never met a tripoli person who is like a lebanese, they dont feel lile lebanese at all. I hope whoever gave them passports burn in hell. Strip them of the nationality and send them to syria.

My friend gabby11 (by the way, congrats on the new increment), yesterday there were 4 and today 4 more. According to your genius (and I salute you for this), that makes a total of 0. What do you think happened to the other 22, i.e. the original count of 22? It reminds me of you, gain, when you, again and again, doubted that Iran dropped the first unmanned America spy plane. Remember that, gabbaguybo? I am totally confused, gabbaguybo., and you're not the only one! Who should we go to now to figure this puzzle out? Dr. Arreet 7akeh or is it going to be the other doctor, cheikh Saad al-Haribi Telteyn al-Marajil?

I hope all of these retardos migrate to Syria or Iraq or Afghanistan or whatsoever and never return back..... In Lebanon we need clean educated civilized people who want to die for the Lebanese cause & for high standards of living.

All I want to say is that who are we to judge these men for their actions. We will never know the truth as to why they went to Syria. I am disgusted to hear negative comments based on where they live, their religion. All that I want to say as a mother is that we always worry about what our children are thinking and doing, who they are socializing with..which is the case with some of these families. At the end of the day these men have made a mistake that cost them their lives and the one's left behind are the grieving families.
