Jumblat's Ministers Meet Berri: No Such Thing as Govt. that Stays in Power in Spite of Crisis

National Struggle Front ministers, of MP Walid Jumblat, stressed on Tuesday that Lebanon is passing through a political crisis, adding that they “don't mind the resignation of the government if it means resolving the crisis.”

Transportation and Public Works Minister Ghazi Aridi said: “There is no such thing as a holy government and no cabinet can remain in power in light of a reality such as the one we are experiencing today.”

The minister made his remarks after holding talks, with the National Struggle Front ministers Wael Abou Faour and Alaeddine Terro, with Speaker Nabih Berri at Ain el-Tineh.

“We are concerned with the situation in Lebanon and its future given the recent instability in Sidon and the tense political rhetoric in the country,” continued Aridi.

“We are in need of serious discussions over how to resolve the crisis,” he stressed.

Do officials have a serious intention to listen to each other given the disputes between them? wondered the minister.

He revealed that the National Struggle Front ministers are in agreement with Berri over the “broad lines” in the political crisis, stressing the need for joint efforts on both sides to emphasize the need for dialogue.

“Dialogue is a necessity and the severing of ties between political blocs cannot lead to any positive result,” stated Aridi.

“Dialogue needs to be serious and nothing should be off-limits,” he remarked.

Berri later held talks with Prime Minister Najib Miqati at Ain el-Tineh.

The premier left the meeting by revealing that the meeting tackled general affairs.
