Clinton Praises Efforts Exerted by Suleiman to End Political Crisis
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةU.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reiterated on Tuesday her country's support to consultations carried out by President Michel Suleiman with Lebanese foes to form a “transitioning government.”
Clinton, in a letter handed to Suleiman by U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly, hailed the efforts exerted by the president to form a new transitioning cabinet “that reflects the aspirations of the Lebanese people and strengthens Lebanon’s stability, sovereignty, and independence.”
Connelly also discussed with Suleiman the U.S.-Lebanese bilateral ties and the local and regional developments.
The March 14-led opposition called for the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Miqati's cabinet after the Oct. 19 assassination of Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau chief Wissam al-Hassan.
It demanded the formation of a neutral salvation cabinet instead.
