Gemayel Calls for End of Vacuum, Says Government Collapsed Nationally

Phalange party leader Amin Gemayel defended the call of the March 14 opposition for the formation of a new government, saying the cabinet of Premier Najib Miqati collapsed at the national level.

“The current government collapsed nationally before its collapse constitutionally,” Gemayel told An Nahar daily published Sunday. “This collapse manifested through its birth, structure and performance.”

“It's a unilateral phenomenon and consequently provocative,” he said.

Only a change of government can end the diplomatic, security and economic vacuum in the country, Gemayel said, adding a new cabinet would help prevent Lebanon's slide to a bigger conflict in the region.

The former president reiterated his call for the formation of a national salvation government that would “salvage Lebanon before it was too late.”

His comments came a day after Miqati accused the opposition of taking Lebanon toward further crisis by setting preconditions on resuming the national dialogue called for by President Michel Suleiman.

He said March 14 has the right to call for the resignation of his government but questioned the intentions behind its decision to boycott the cabinet.

March 14 intensified its call for Miqati's resignation following a massive car bombing that killed Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau chief Wissam al-Hasan and two others in an attack the opposition blamed on Syria and its allies in Lebanon.

What are you trying to do you prick...? Weaken the M14 coalition? You will never lead the Christian community in Lebanon and you never did... You were once the mayor of Baabda and that is all about it... You are one of too many crooked politicians that robbed the country blind... You, berri, Franjieh and the likes of you should be thrown to the fish once and for all...

The entire government is a farce. we have self serving politicians representing themselves with ridiculous aspiratons, in addition we have an elected government hijacked byhizbweapons, working for the axis of evil. Either its time to re-elect a centrist government or time to rearm for another civil war. This situation is not acceptable!

March 14 or salvation Government will not fix anything. You people just can't seem to accept the truth. March 8 has a majority even without Jumblatt and if/when your vote eventually becomes representational that majority will grow. It is not a function of Syria or Hezbollah's weapons, it is mathematics. Secondly, Hezbollah needs weapons to protect itself from your enemy and former occupier, the State of Israel. Their need for weapons is existential. It cannot be denied. Look at the plight of the Palestinians and see what passive resistance achieves when dealing with Israel. Israel has impunity to violate international law and attack and murder with absolutely no fear of repercussions. Simply put, March 14 supporters take a position that does not accept the facts on the ground. No matter how much you hate, how many gtudges you hold, whatever injustice or indignation that you think you have suffered, your positions and political goals can only weaken Lebanon and empower Isreal.

The Miqati/Syria/Hezz government is a total disaster. Growth is stalled. The Shia blunders on foreign policy from the beginning are an embarassment. All this government can show for its' accomplishment is more debt, a clandestine was being fought by the Hezz in Syria, and a no smoking law. Everything else is a mess.

It is March 14 that has collapsed and they say it's the government that collapsed. They say that Hizbullah are terrorists and their arms are illegal while it's March 14 thugs with March 14 arms terrorizing Tripoli and the surrounding areas. All of March 14 ask for dialogue and when there is dialogue they put preconditions. Every single March 14 politician has contradicted himself over and over again. The more they talk the lower their IQ gets.
