General Prosecutor Judge Hatem Madi revealed that Military Tribunal Judge Saqr Saqr has started investigations in the Zahle prison incident that took place on Saturday, reported al-Joumhouria newspaper on Monday.

He told the daily that the officers that were detained in the unrest were held on charges of negligence.

He added that the prison is understaffed by guards, saying that the situation at the jail has reached a state of chaos that is difficult to contain.

On Saturday, inmate Abbas Fayyad Zoaiter was killed in a dispute with inmates from the Mazloum family.

His father Fayyad Zoaiter was stabbed in the clash.

Madi stated that a razor, made by the inmates themselves, was used in the dispute.

He has since ordered guards at the Zahle jail to carry out routine inspections of the cells to confiscate any prohibited items.

Three officers, three soldiers, and five inmates were detained on Sunday for being linked to Saturday's incident.
