FBI Team Gathers Evidence at Ashrafiyeh Bombing Scene

A U.S. investigation team arrived in Beirut on Thursday and began gathering evidence at the scene of the bombing that killed Maj. Gen. Wissam al-Hasan, chief of the Intelligence Bureau of the Internal Security Forces, Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said.

"The Federal Bureau of Investigation team is at the scene of the crime and has begun collecting evidence," Charbel told Agence France Presse.

"The team was sent to Lebanon at the request of the Lebanese government," he added.

The United States announced on Monday it would send an FBI team to help Lebanon probe the rush-hour car bombing.

Washington has condemned the blast as a terrorist strike but said it would wait for the results of the investigation before determining any further response.

The opposition March 14 camp has widely blamed Syrian President Bashar Assad for the attack, as it did in 2005 when former premier Rafik Hariri was killed in a huge Beirut blast.

Al-Liwaa newspaper reported Thursday that the FBI delegation will offer Lebanese investigation teams the technical assistance in the issues that need high expertise, in particular the evidence that require “thorough examinations.”

A high ranking security source told the newspaper that the FBI team's mission is aimed at offering the “technical support” to the Lebanese investigators.

“We are determined to reveal the assassins behind the crime,” the source added.

Sources told the newspaper that the crime scene preparation by the culprits “took time.”

They pointed out that the nearby surveillance cameras detected the movement of unidentified people, wearing hats, who were scanning the area that the car used in the bombing was placed in.

They should send the X-Files team instead....
no one will ever know who really did it, it's easy to accuse but who can prove it? and more importantly who will punish the culprits?

why should the fbi be allowed in Lebanon to investigate. shou we don't have any investigators up to the job. Lebanese leaders are lapdogs of foreign countries, tfeh............

Because idiot by now you know whenever there is evidence HA and it's thugs take control of the crime scene and do everything to cover up their treacherous crimes...aka control of telecom agency.

Missing samiam 25 October 2012, 21:16

our government invited them because they probably want to collect data that won't be compromised by HA and the prosyrian contingents. notice we didn't ask any iranian or syrian 'experts'.

this is the same like hariri murder. they need to shake the country, and they start peaceful demonstration.... all those leaders of those demonstration were trained in (CANVAS) Centre for Applied Non Violent Actions and Strategies & Otpor, who is an cia funded bla bla bla..... Established in Belgrade, CANVAS has worked with pro-democracy activists from more than 50 countries,[1] including Iran, Zimbabwe, Burma, Venezuela, Ukraine, Georgia, Palestine, Western Sahara, West Papua, Eritrea, Belarus, Azerbaijan and Tonga and, recently, Tunisia and Egypt.[2] It works only with groups with no history of violence and only in response to requests for assistance.

part 2
CANVAS’ training and methodology has reportedly been successfully applied by groups in Georgia (2003), Ukraine (2004), Lebanon (2005), The Maldives (2008) and Egypt (2011).then u their media talking about it...... then their ambassadors bragging loud too.... then they send u a team of fbi to cover up their crime and then comes the international court....... so they can blame the other party. the same story with Hariri....... haram lebnen

The G-Men are coming... They did often in the past, particularly when May Chidiac was targeted, and of course he culprits will not welcome their presence nor their assistance and expertise because they don't want to eventually face the music... However, many of us who want a better tomorrow, will welcome them and are grateful...

Let them solve JFK assassination first. If Bashar is behind it, then he is more powerful than anyone can imagine. He is so busy in crushing the rebels, yet he can successfully and easily assassinate anyone of his choosing.

Thumb eli-g 25 October 2012, 16:57

@jcamerican do you realy think that they are incapable of things like this?

We all agree that Israel has some benefits from a vacuum in Lebanon, which means that Israel could be one of the beneficiaries (just like Syria) for the unrest. So would you think that, if the Mossad were involved in this assassination and the FBI found that out, they are going to share with the Lebanese government???

Ok. team X was found guilty, what's next? Roumieh? I vote for hanging so that the lesson is learned, history has not showed a good sign especially when it came to Fath el Islam in Roumyeh.
