Geagea: Aoun's Visit to Our Lady of Elige is Unwise

Head of the Lebanese Forces Samir Geagea blasted on Monday Free Patriotic Movement Leader MP Michel Aoun's cancelled visit to Our Lady of Elige Church, considering it “unwise” and accusing Aoun of ignoring the historical symbolism the tombs represent.

In a conversation with media representatives in Maarab after meeting with al-Mustaqbal Movement MP Ahmad Fatfat in MP Antoine Zahra's presence, Geagea wished Aoun had arranged his visit after consulting the LF and the martyrs' parents.

"Michel Aoun plans his visits based on electoral interests only, without taking into consideration others' feelings and possible reactions,” Geagea said.

FPM leader's visit to the church as part of his Byblos election tour was called off after LF supporters congregated to voice out their objection to it, due to the place's historical symbolism. Hundreds of LF fighters killed in the Elimination War against Aoun's forces were buried in Our Lady of Elige in 1989.

Geagea also attacked FPM leader's speeches given following the protests against his visit, saying that a “corrupt resistance is one that pursues its activities after the war”.

“Any resistance that continues to exist after the end of the war, the rise of the state and the restoration of civil peace would be a corrupt resistance, the same as everyone who supports it,” said Geagea.

"It is a shame Aoun has reached this advanced age and still uses the same degrading, obscene and defaming rhetoric,” he added.

Regarding the upcoming elections, Geagea considered that an electoral law based on small districts guarantees a better representation of Christians than proportional representation, rejecting claims about the LF wanting to keep the 1960 law in force.

“I cannot understand the attacks on our proposal if they believe we want an election based on the 1960 law,” he said.

"Small districts do not fragment the country and it is applied in most countries,” he added.

What does one expect from a senile old idiot and the retards that tag along... Hizbollah had a welcome ceremony for them where they played their anthem before the Lebanese national anthem and this friffin prick went along and even seemed to enjoy the staged welcome ceremony... The LF though made sure to make his trip miserable and it showed...

Why does he seek a law guaranteeing the best representation of Christians? Why does he still have this sectarian mentality?

This is why I disagree with this man. Forget about what happened in the civil war. I actually don't support him not because of his name but because of his political views, which are different than mine. I believe in a secular political system, he doesn't. This is why I think he shouldn't be in politics, because this sectarian mentality is what is keeping Lebanon from progressing.

Of course and unfortunately he is not the only politician to think this way.

#gcb1 I totally agree with you, they should all stop being sectarian, starting with geagea, aoun, hezbollah etc..
However, in my opinion, since we are living in a sectarian time and country, for now, geagea is far better than michel 3aww, knowing that michel 3aww barks day and night saying he is the representative of christians while in fact, he is the one with the most christian blood and emigration on his hands and with the least christian principles and values in his politics and mind.

Thumb liefighter 02 October 2012, 11:31

Do you think that if we stop thinking sectarian, noone will die because he is christian or muslim, look to Syria , they claim to be a non sectarian goverment since 50 years , and all what they have is sectarian war. sectarian discrimination grows more and more, only having a western education can overpass this obstacle.

Karim.....who says following the evil ayatollah and his mini-one in Lebanon are better? together with Syria they have been killing M14 politicians. I guess a thug-murder mentality is what they represent. Lebanon is rejecting it......

Guys it is sad that some Lebanese people are still voting for Aoun, Geagea, Berri, Nasrallah, Jumblat and Hariri. We have so many talented and educated young people that can do a much better job than them.
Politicians should work to better the lives of their voters and give them hope. Lebanese politicians rally their voters not by their economic and social plans but through fear and hate. We are no better than the Iranians, Saudis and the Israelis.
We should vote for those who care about our small businesses, our unemployed, our infrastructure, social security and health care. We should vote for those who give us hope in our country. Lebanon has been a constant exporter of talent. Enough! Wake up!

The perfect response Zadig Voltaire!
But unfortunately most of us here are sheep still following our shepherd for right or wrong.
Maybe baby sheep have a chance to go astray.

Unfortunately the smart and clean people get assassinated. You either side with the US/accused to be supportive of Israel or your other choice is Syria to remain alive and survive the assassinations. The day when Aoun declared Harb el Tahreer, he's created the earthquake among Christians simply because of his current support of the HA militia and the double standard mentality and w/o mentioning those who shelled his palace from the air at that time. If politics meant to switch sides for the election chair then do not insult our intelligence to pay tribute to our martyrs.
