Mansour Seeking to Interview Gadhafi’s ex-Spy Chief on Sadr’s Fate

Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour is in Mauritania for talks with top officials on the possibility of meeting with slain Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi’s ex-spy chief in his efforts to reveal the fate of Imam Moussa al-Sadr, An Nahar daily reported on Sunday.

The newspaper said that Mansour and his accompanying delegation that includes a member of the committee following up Sadr’s disappearance will hold talks with Mauritanian officials on Sunday and Monday for a possible meeting with Abdullah al-Senussi.

Last month, Mauritania's president ruled out extraditing al-Senussi, saying he has problems with the country’s judiciary and has to face court for entering Mauritania under a false identity.

Al-Senussi, the feared former right hand man of Gadhafi, was arrested in Mauritania in March and charged two months later for illegal entry and use of forged documents.

According to An Nahar, al-Senussi is described as the “the treasure of secrets” and knows the fate of Sadr and his two companions who disappeared in 1978 during a visit to Libya.

In 1975, al-Sadr founded Amal movement which is now led by Speaker Nabih Berri.

The International Criminal Court in June 2011 issued a warrant for al-Senussi, calling him an "indirect perpetrator of crimes against humanity, of murder and persecution based on political grounds" in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi.

Benghazi was the birthplace of a revolt that started in February 2011 and eventually put an end to more than four decades of dictatorship in Libya, leading to the slaying of Gadhafi and the arrest of several of his allies.
