Qahwaji Vows Not to Stand Idle to Attacks on Army
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةArmy chief Gen. Jean Qahwaji issued a stern warning against critics on Thursday, saying the military institution would no longer stand idle to attacks against it.
In a speech during a ceremony in honor of retired officers, Qahwaji said the army will not allow any political party to extort it and “from now on will not remain silent to verbal or actual attacks against it.”
His remark came against the backdrop of a campaign of accusations against the army over its deployment in the northern district of Akkar and other border regions.
The Justice Ministry has sent a request to Parliament to strip off the parliamentary immunity of Akkar MP Moeen al-Merehbi after the Defense Ministry filed a complaint against the lawmaker earlier this month.
Al-Merehbi criticized Qahwaji as an “unsuccessful person,” accusing him of being “responsible for all the mistakes and seditions.”
But Qahwaji told the retired officers that the army is seeking to control the border crossings to prevent them from becoming a passageway for strife in Lebanon and elsewhere.
He also expressed regret that the army’s “wisdom in dealing with the security incidents” from kidnappings, to road closures and all the way to the clashes in the northern city of Tripoli was seen by some parties as a “weakness.”
The army will hold onto its policy in assuming responsibility for the lives of the Lebanese people, he said.
Dust in the wind ... Kahwaji should thank all the critics against the Army . At least , he got a political cover ,lol ..
two trucks full of ammunition and weapons seized in tripoli , zahriye area , with 11 armed persons from the same family, the military tribunal released them..even the law give two months imprisonement for a person holding an arm without permission...we are talking here about two trucks full of arms,so what is that ya kahwaji??????????????
Dear Mr. Qahwaji. If your not standing idle to attacks on the army means defending our teritory of thugs, Tripoli, Mokdads, miscellaneous thiefs, then 100% with you.
If not standing idle to attacks on the army means suing an elected official for voicing their opinion and saying you are unsuccessful, then you are wasting time and loosing our tax money.
We want a strong army, a strong chain of command, trained and eqquiped soldiers, impartiality, leadership!
We have none!
Bravo General...Words of Wisdom...Bring Security back to our country!
Now how about you implement this security on all our land!! maybe you could send a 1000 men to secure our borders.. inspect all cars coming in and out of Lebanon (you could make a point to inspect MPs' cars?) ...
then you might also want to send another 1000 to baalback and Bekaa...
Ya general.....just stand idle while Syria kills people in border villages......that is much better. Don't defend your people that would be better. Only attack your critics for not doing your job.
