Report: Israel Intercepted Phone Calls between Lebanon, Bulgaria ahead of Bombing

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

The Israeli intelligence service intercepted several telephone calls between Lebanon and Burgas in Bulgaria two months before the bombing that killed five Israeli tourists and their local bus driver, the New York Times reported on Thursday.

“The volume (of calls) intensified in the three days leading up to” the bombing, a senior Israeli government official told the newspaper on condition of anonymity.

Israel accused Iran and Hizbullah of planning attacks in "over 20 countries" in remarks just days after the July 18 attack in Bulgaria.

However, Iran and Hizbullah both denied any involvement in what was the first attack of its kind in Bulgaria.

The official said that “the sources in Lebanon are known,” but the identities of those who are on the other end in Bulgaria remain a mystery.

“They shouldn’t know that we know the numbers in Lebanon,” he said.

The NY Times said that the Bulgarian officials are hesitant to declare Hizbullah responsible without evident proof.

European allies expect more concrete evidence than the volume of calls before taking steps against Hizbullah, the daily added.

A senior security official in Germany told the daily that the EU maintains “some skepticism that it was Hizbullah as an organization itself, and not, for instance, Iran using individuals with some Hizbullah affiliation.”

Police have the fingerprints and DNA of the bomber, who killed five Israelis and the Bulgarian bus driver as well as himself in the July 18 attack at Burgas airport, but they have drawn a blank on international databases.

hizbushaitan days are over. thanks GOD.
hizbushaitan and fpm will soon be eradicated and all their BS will go down the drain.\they will all end up in jail or exterminated as traitors to Lebanon.

Thumb geha 09 August 2012, 12:22

the issue here is not if hizbushaitan did it or not: israel has decided to go for it for several reason:
- they cannot accept the iranian/hizbushaitan threat.
- they can distract attention from their inside problems
- ....
whatever, israel will not do it like the last time, and they will finish the job this time round.
so all they are doing is building their case internationally to justify this war: it does not mean hizbushaitan did it really or not....

Thumb geha 09 August 2012, 13:10

Eu will have no say in this, and the israelis are preparing for this as they know their window of opportunity to execute it is within 2 months from the US elections, whereby all contenders to the presidency can do nothing but support israel in its war to the extreme :)
so this is going to happen soon.

Thumb jcamerican 09 August 2012, 11:53

Maybe Israel can help Lebanon is solving a lot of cases. They can supply them with all the data needed from telecom.

Thumb geha 09 August 2012, 12:23

he now senses their days are near the end....

Thumb geha 09 August 2012, 12:30

FT
you will soon see the day where hizbushaitan and fpm leaders will be round up and judged as traitors to Lebanon, as well as stealing, murdering, ....
a traitor to his country can have no mercy, and these traitors cost Lebanonese lives, economical losses, ....
it is coming rest assured.

Missing moonsear 09 August 2012, 14:17

if it was in Lebanon, the mere fact that a Hizbullah member was talking on the phone during a bombing would incriminate him of being behind it............:)

Shabeb wahiet allah 3aeb 3aleikon, i read these news everyday and i don't even have the pleasure to comment coz it has been discussting reading most of your comments! It's been for long now and all i read is GEHA & SLASH AND FT going at it back and forth! Guys seriously????? And then i read someone saying ROU7 entek,Guys we got kids and ladies reading your comments believe it or not! And the saddest thing is that you are insulting each others for all these politician bitches who don't give a crap about you! Wake up ppl! Go do something useful, get a job and work.

Missing big-pap 09 August 2012, 15:04

No disrespect to anyone when i said Lebanese are very smart only when they live abroad, but it's just that Lebanese people don't learn from their mistakes. A civil war could happen at any moment once again, and we dont learn from our previous mistakes. People are too busy criticizing their political foes going back and forth instead of getting busy doing something more useful.

The problem ya big-pap is that there is a zallem et mazloum and a ghaleb et maghloub. We reject an illegaly armed party outside the authority of the state to subvert our FREE will at gunpoint and change the course of our country. M8 shimtenin fina and mkatareen because they hold the weapons that are forcing us ghasb min 3anna. I do not defend the use of insults bass dammna 3amb yighleh and there are people here who are enjoying our torment and turning up the temperature. Shifit keef? Thumb jcamerican 09 August 2012, 15:18

Very well said big-pap. Reading the comments doesn't make you feel anything changed in Lebanon since the civil war.

Thumb Bandoul 09 August 2012, 16:20

I bet to differ jcamerican, a lot has changed since the civil war: there is one party ruling all the others at gunpoint, against thier will and their civil liberty. This charade of play on reality must end. No one party or sect should overpower the other with the power of illegitimate weapons outside the authority and control of the state. Khalas ba2a akl hawa w'falsafeh.

Thumb geha 09 August 2012, 15:19

big-pap
unfortunately my comments are definately not appreciated (to say the least) by some on this site, although they represent my point of view.
however, if you look at the comments I get with insults each and every time from thugs like FT, mowaten, karim, and a few others, for just expressing my opinion, it is just amazing.
there are some who do not accept opinions different than theirs, and just respond this way.
personally, I try to avoid responding to such insults as much as possible, but what can you expect from people whose common way of speaking is insults.
for an example: visit tayyar.org and see all the comments there: it is their way of life.

Thumb geha 09 August 2012, 16:20

mowaten
seeking approbation from whom? dream on.
accusing me of lying is easy: prove that I ever insulted anyone then come and accuse me.
you see even in this comment you are insulting, you cannot live without doing it.

Thumb geha 09 August 2012, 16:52

again FT!
you prove my point each and every time.
you are an fpm thug, it is beyond you, that is all you know!
you are a lost case, and there is nothing anyone can do about you.
same goes for kortbawi, as he is trying to free samaha and his argument is he was arrested improperly :) where do you arrest a person if not at his house? what a bunch of loosers fppm are.

Thumb Bandoul 09 August 2012, 16:05

Bala tahzeeb, bala marba, bala akhle2 and bala sharaf is lecturing others on tahzeeb, marba akhle2 and sharaf? Keep it up...it just reminds us that what comes around goes around. You'll get your turn 7abboub <wink> I have faith in God that the likes of you will get their judgment day just like the rest of us!

Thumb Bandoul 09 August 2012, 19:30

@mowaten, since you have taken the time to give me a courteous and sincere reply I will answer you with the same. Yes that is exaclty how 50% (at least)of us feel about the Party of God's weapons. Would there have been a Doha accord if it weren't for the party's weapons? A May 7? A 2006 war? If you are honest with yourself then you will not deny. Brother I want to debate you on my political vision and yours on even footing, sans weapons. As long your party has weapons I am affraid of you and democracy cannot be served. Without your party's weapon, we are more than 50%. We are being robbed of taking the country in the direction the majority wants to go. This is salb el mawdou3, we cannot prove to you we are the majority until your party gives its weapons to the army.

Thumb Bandoul 09 August 2012, 19:37

Lastly you cannot know someone is pointing a gun at our heads because you don't walk in our shoes and you are the one who's party is holding the gun. If you can't see it then you are refusing to see it and not because it is in my head. Your team is 100% in charge ghasb min 3anna whether I like or not, I admit it. But you have to admit it as well and admit that without the power of weapons, your team would not be in charge at all because we are the true majority. Thank you for your apology, I will always respect your political direction and never tayyeb la 7adan (thumbs up) who is insulting you or vice versa. I want to be civilized with you and kel akhsamnah.

Thumb fero 09 August 2012, 20:38

At least the EU countries have some common sense they dont think a bunch of phone calls is enough to point the finger at someone in order to start a war against lebanon. i am just amazed at how people here are ok with a war happening. i totally respect a persons point of view, you guys may not like Hizbullah or what they stand for and you may not like who supports them but in the end. they are your countrymen the blood that runs through their veins is just like yours. in the last war israel had against Hizbullah they murdered innocent kids and civillians and they will do the same again. this is what israel wants they want to divide the lebanese people . we all have the right to our own opinions but we cannot support the idea of an israele attack because in the end the lifes of some lebanese people will come to an end we need to stick together .

Thumb Bandoul 09 August 2012, 22:35

@mowaten, don't you understand that you are missing the whole point? We SHOULD be able to “provoke” the Party of God in a free society and not have to suffer armed retribution. The party leader swore an oath in front of God and country, “weapons never to be used domestically”. They have an illegal telecom and surveillance network outside of the authority of the state which the people did not consent to or sponsor and this is the heart of the matter. We can be civil to each other, I can see that but we will never be able to reach a compromise because you will not take responsibility and ownership of your Party's illegitimate actions. Why not say proudly, yes it is illegal and against the will of the people but M8 chose to support it? Mich afdal el sara7a?

Thank you big-pap. Fashayteli khel2i. I feel strangely addicted to reading the comments here, in the hope that one day I’ll come and see that people can have a real conversation with each other. M8, M14 or whatever else: what have they given us since the civil war until now? more unrest.. new parties/alliances, same results: the lebanese are divided. I have been abroad since 2005.. I had hopes and dreams for lebanon then. I wanted to get an education and come back and do good for my country.. I believe that was a possibility then.. Now i don't know what I’ll come back to. when are we going to realize that we are first and foremost bound together for better or for worse? we are citizens in a state, whatever it may be, and our duties are first to abide by the law, respect each other, and if the laws don't exist, we should help create them, forge them.. they are our rights and our protectors from the insanity we live in. and then we can have all the arguments we want about whatever!

Default-user-icon nostalgic but appalled (Guest) 09 August 2012, 23:35

I love Lebanon and we are an amazingly warm, loving and generous people if we can let politics be politics, rather than let it define who we love/hate/attack... 3ayb.. wallah 3ayb! none of us deserves this, especially those who have steadfast-idly stayed in lebanon despite all the problems! people hating on each other and getting more and more divided while we have no electricity, no resources, no prospects for the young generations, no jobs.. one day people are partying and getting drunk together, the next they are attacking each other while life becomes less and less tolerable... people are becoming more extreme, more hateful, more racist... and in the midst of all this, our demands and rights as citizens drown in this sea of hatred and strife. all that while our big "leaders" and "representatives" go in and out of alliances, hide behind their big regional/international supporters and allies, secure alternative places to live in when all hell breaks loose.. wake up.

I tried to post something a few hours ago which never saw the light of day. there were neither curses/ bad words in it, nor was it directed at any particular group.. i feel naharnet chooses the comments that are most inflammatory to create tension between people, rather than be a forum for a real discussion. Shame on you and on perpetuating this cycle of hatred. If something is worth getting censored, it is more like the type of hateful talk from "mansour" or "roberto". Sick people we have become, us lebanese.

Default-user-icon LebExile (Guest) 10 August 2012, 07:34

Mansour - Its sad to see comments like yours - especially since you have been through what the Syrians are going through now.
The innocent people who are getting killed are not politicians who had any impact on what happened in Lebanon, these are factions and people hungry for power driving this war.
We will all be worse off at the end of this war, I hope that if the revolution does win, we see a truly democratic system emerge in Syria, otherwise, we'd likely see a Sunni Dictator take over, and continue where the Allawites left off.
