Electricite du Liban’s contract workers on Saturday blocked the entrances to the state-run company’s main building in Mar Mikhael, warning they would take escalatory measures next week if their demands are not met.

The National News Agency said the workers prevented the employees that have contracts with service providers from receiving bills to collect them from people who haven’t been paying for the past 3 months.

The protestors, who allowed some employees to get in, informed the administration that they would continue to block the gates until Sunday and would prevent all staff and EDL vehicles from entering the building the next day.

They also warned that they would resort to burning tires if they don’t receive their salaries.

However, the head of the committee of contract workers, Mohammed Fayyad, denied that they closed the building's entrances, stressing that their sit-in is peaceful.

Parliament approved on Monday the full-time employment of the contract workers, but the draft-law hit stumbling blocks after the Christian blocs boycotted the next day of the legislative session over their complaints that the approval would lead to the underrepresentation of Christians in state institutions.

Why don't they change religion. That would solve the problem. And berry would be screwed: he would have given jobs to non-chiites!

I'm beginning to realize that these workers are the cause of the problem instead of the cure. EDL and the ministry should issue statements that any of these potential wantabee employees who commit acts of sabotage against EDL or its operations won't be eligible for a job there.

After all, if you were the boss at EDL, would you want to hire people who were sabotaging your operations or threatening your employees? Th
