Syrian Ambassador Meets Aoun, Says Assad Fully Implementing Reforms
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةSyrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali stressed on Thursday that President Bashar Assad is fully implementing reforms, saying it is necessary to confront any power that doesn’t want the regime to play its role.
“Most Syrians support the reforms and the dialogue that President Assad and the Syrian leadership called for,” Ali told reporters after holding a meeting with Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun in Rabieh.
He warned those who are refusing dialogue and calling for a military intervention in Syria against their scheme.
“Syria is rebuilding and safeguarding itself after the turmoil in the country and the evil international conspiracy,” Ali said.
He stated that Syria is keen to preserve its national unity and to maintain its sovereignty.
Ali told reporters that his meeting with Aoun was a chance to discuss the local Lebanese situation and the bilateral ties between the two countries.
What Syria has done in our country is unforgivable. They stole, they murdered, they kidnapped, they oppressed. The same goes for Israel. How dare our leaders ally ourselves with these countries, the countries that hurt our beloved Lebanon for years on end.
FlameThrower - don't compare Lebanon to France or Germany or anyone. Our case is different and much more complex. I have every reason to be emotional because what the Syrians and Israelis have done to my land is disgraceful and unacceptable. For Lebanon's future well-being I would be delighted to see good diplomatic relations with these countries... but still to this day they threaten our sovereignty and independence. Why defend the regimes who killed our people, raped our land and placed us under oppressive governments?
James..What Lebanese did to Syrian Nationals is 10 times worst then what Syrians did in Lebanon. Thousands of Syrians were murdered in Lebanon and almost all of then were in Lebanon ONLY to work. They were not involved with any of the Lebanese criminal political parties. Let us see if this racist anti Syrian Naharnet will print this.
It is quite obvious...The reforms are highly visible, or I must be blind not to see it !!! besides, the Syrian regime is committed to preserve to sovereignty of Lebanon by killing almost 10 civilians so far!!!and firing shells across the borders...
This guy needs to be expelled immediately for humiliating and insulting the intelligence of the Lebanese people...Looooooooser
Allouchi, you beat me to it. The ex-general represents the true meaning of "Trojan Horse".... total traitor.
James, KSA did the same through palestinians, USA through Israel... also Lebanese history is full of foreign nations hurting him (Egypt, grece, Persia, Rome, Arabs, Ottomans...) should we then consider all those nations as our ennemies? or be more pragmatic and try to protect our independance by being friends with all of them and not just one of them?
kerweneh, Persia, Rome and the Arabs are the past, before we had a modern Lebanese state. Tell me why we should be friends with the very countries that have spilt so much of our blood. The Syrians never have and never will recognise us as independent and sovereign.. (Souria al Kbir prevails in their mind). The Israelis today also present themselves as one of the biggest danger to our population. Think back in history... did our forefathers protect our independence by being friendly with the Ottomans.. or did Fakher el Dine fight with his flesh and blood for our people? So why should we protect our independence by being friends... these countries' governments have interfered in our affairs way too much.
kesrweneh, that's not a good comparison but we need to be truly FIERCELY independent from ALL foreign interferences domestically and pragmatic internationally.
Kesrweneh, yes real politic does make for strange bedfellows but even real politics draws a red line that should not be crossed. Aoun crossed the red line with the Syrians and under no guise can we former Aoun supporters accept that. Yes, be pragmatic vis a vis the Syrian regime but do not kiss their asses and sacrifice all the views that you held just to achieve a personal goal (Korsi al-Ra2seh).
Besides, look at the events realistically, there is no way that Assad and the Ba'ath will rule Syria like they did before, ever. Too much has transpired for that to come to pass again.
"Ali told reporters that his meeting with Aoun was a chance to discuss the local Lebanese situation and the bilateral ties between the two countries."
did aoun ask him about the fate of hundreds of lebanese in the syrian jails including those poor lebanese who believed in aoun and that he abandoned in syria?
aoun is discussing with ali representing his boss who gave him permission to return back to lebanon... i am curious to know if the same story will be repeated with saado, if assad stays, for sure there will be reconciliation with saudis by orders from above and ... we will have another sunni aoun coming back from paris...plus on est fou, plus on s'amuse...

You should be sharing the same bone.
James, we will never forgive, we will never forget! They turned us against each other, pillaged and raped Lebanon.
They never withdrew. They still occupy Lebanon through the aoumieh, baath, and chiefly Hezbollah.
