Report: New Israeli Tank Shells Capable of Penetrating Reinforced Hizbullah Targets

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

The Israeli army will receive new tank shells developed to penetrate reinforced targets, a crucial means for the military of the Jewish state which faces future conflicts with Hizbullah and Hamas, The Jerusalem Post reported on Monday.

The new 120 mm. shell called M339 can be fired by Merkava Mk 3 and Mk 4 tanks at extended ranges, the newspaper said. The shell explodes only after it penetrates a target and then releases thousands of lethal fragments.

It was developed by Israel Military Industries together with the army’s Ground Forces Command.

The Jerusalem Post said M339 is the second new tank shell purchased by the Israeli army in the past year. It joins the Kalanit, which was recently deployed in tanks stationed along the border with the Gaza Strip.

Kalanit explodes midair over militants hiding behind various obstacles such as boulders or vehicles.

Thumb primesuspect 16 April 2012, 18:02

Slash, your absolutely right. The enumerated attacks were horrible for the Lebanese people... But some people among us like being dominated and give a stick to the syro-Iranian masters I order to get beaten... They don't understand the fact that we aren't masochists.

Thumb ado.australia 17 April 2012, 17:30

Who cares who the naive people's think these woapons are targeting... At the end of the day, they kill more civilians than combatants. Blame hezballah or Israel, war and occupation of people's land is evil and wrong. Never will this fact be changed. The cause of most of the regions war and problems is the state of Israel. Full stop. Anything else is still the reaction.

The Zionist are a mad cow much more radical than any radical Islam with a war machine, no one will win any war, it will be more disastrous to both innocent Jews and Musloms, while the corrupted leaders claim more cash and fund raise for their evil ambitions. People of Israel revolt against the Zionist as well the people of the south should revolt against Hezboshaitan, because their arm race will destroy the land of God.

Default-user-icon True story (Guest) 16 April 2012, 13:51

Slash
you are delusional if you honestly think that the Israelis have acted in 'self defence' or because they were 'provoked for no reason'.
if Israel wasn't created ILLEGALLY then the palestinians would not have ended up in South Lebanon, and Hezbollah probably wouldnt exist.

Hezbollah was the reason the israelis withdrew in 2000.
between 1982 and 2000 Israel occupied south lebanon for NO REASON.
why not get out of Lebanon and give the palestinians their land back as per 1967?

Default-user-icon Danny B (Guest) 16 April 2012, 13:52

Bravo Slash, finally we start hearing a logical voice with common sense.
Borders could remain calm same as from 1948 till 70s'.
People from both sides were living in peace and quiet.
Israel did what any country should have done if its neighbor was attacking.
You can't kill your parents then claim you're and orphan.
Israel for peace with Egypt gave up a territory 3 times bigger than entire Israel, gave back oil fields and rigs , tourist resorts, strategic area etc. same with Jordan.
As for Lebanon there is minor territorial dispute if any.
There is no reason why peace was not signed between those countries.
If Lebanese government would like to consider Israel as its enemy, welcome, but keep border quiet as casualties will fall from both sides of border.

Default-user-icon Ben (Guest) 16 April 2012, 16:26

They can build whatever they wish and whatever it say can penetrate, still they will not be able to move into Lebanon with tanks, if they do cross the borderline they will be blown in pieces by Hizbollah's antitank arms like in 2006 war. They are wasting money on arms that will not help them when they should spend it on peace and poor Israelis whom are collecting food from the garbage to have food on the table. The iron dome cost billions of dollars, still it is not providing protection of handmade and cheap rocket's fired from Gaza. The by Zionist occupied government of Israel need to be handed back to Israelis who want peace with the Palestinians. KSA is the main problem for all conflicts in the Middle East and the main supporter for terrorism in the world.

Missing peace 16 April 2012, 16:34

note that they say "future conflicts with hezbollah" not with lebanon...
israel is clearly aiming this militia. lebanese people will be collateral damage because of this terrorist party...and hezb will be responsible along with israel for the killing of innocent, so M8 just applaud hezb and support them, you are accomplices too.

if you were truly seeking for the liberation of chebaa you would ask your friend bashar to hand over the OFFICIAL documents proving they are lebanese. thus making them fall under UN425 and not 242...UN is still waiting for this paper to officially say chebaa is lebanese, until then they are still syrian in the international law!

but you prefer this excuse of the "resistance" instead of legality...and letting them be more powerful than your own state, "patriots"...LOL

Missing gcb1 16 April 2012, 17:10

It is true that according to international law, Shebaa Farms is under Syrian territory, even though Lebanese citizens owned property there. To say the least, the Lebanese government has provided no sufficient proof that Shebaa Farms is Lebanese territory.

This being said, Israeli threats against Lebanon have more to do with punishing the Lebanese rather than just Hezbollah. Even if Hezbollah didn't exist, Israel would still be occupying Lebanon and try to disrupt its progress, for the sole reason of seeking to be the most powerful country in the region.

Thumb falanges 16 April 2012, 20:03

and all this comes from your magic crystal ball? gcb1 why doesnt israel mess with jordan?

Missing gcb1 16 April 2012, 20:56

No, I don't have a magic crystal ball unfortunately. What I do know is Lebanon's history of hostility with Israel, with or without Hezbollah as a major player.

I recall in the early 2000s when Lebanon wanted to build a dam to divert more water into its land, which was perfectly legal under international law. Israel threatened to pound it if Lebanon moves along with its plans. Of course Lebanon built it anyway and avoided a war, largely due Hezbollah's threat of retaliation and Israel's public didn't want another war.

Now we found oil in our waters, and yet Israel still seeks to take those away from us and seek to extract more oil on Lebanese waters (according to UN maps). I am open for peace and trade with Israel so long as they don't treat ALL of the Lebanese as our enemies. They must take the first step.

Missing gcb1 17 April 2012, 01:35

Go ahead and call for civil war and the fragmentation of the Lebanese. I'm sure that'll benefit all of us very well.

Just because you disapprove of another political party's ideology, doesn't mean they should be your enemy. Just another example of how the political culture of Lebanon is turning increasingly more violent.

It is in your interest not to engage with such rhetoric against your fellow Lebanese. National fragmentation impacts everybody negatively, and is a hindrance to prosperity and development. Read the history of developing and poor countries, and you will understand what I mean.

Default-user-icon Leb_canadian (Guest) 16 April 2012, 21:08

I just can say, both sides will have innocent casualties and for what? Whether it is a shia kid dying or a jewish kid, it is the same! from the other side as well there are a lot of people that are against any war against lebanon, and from Lebanese sides as well. Military speaking, if israel invades using more numbers of soldiers this time, Hizbollah will call its reserves and Iran will send some troops as well as Syria. Same shit will come back and forth..

Missing gcb1 16 April 2012, 23:23

Lool seriously, Al-Manar is actually ridiculously biased. Then again, it's hard to find any Lebanese media outlets that are objective.

Academic/university articles are the best way we could gain a proper understanding of what is going on around us.

Missing gcb1 17 April 2012, 01:28

I don't mind Hezbollah, but why should I support the Assad regime so much? Have you no idea the amount of corruption and patronage they brought onto Lebanon? If you dislike Israel for disrespecting our sovereignty, how is Syria better? If you stand by this regime, it means you are a real man?

Understand that the relationship between Hezbollah-Syria is no where near the relationship between Iran-Hezbollah. The latter is alot more ideological and deeper, while the former is simply political. Syria utilizes Hezbollah as leverage against Israel for peace demands. Support Hezbollah all you want (I also believe they've done alot for Lebanon), but try to keep an open, objective mind. Hezbollah isn't perfect either.

Missing gcb1 17 April 2012, 01:32

As for your picture by the way, it is simply another example of Lebanese political followers choosing their favorite political party over the Lebanese state. You've replaced the symbol of Lebanon with a symbol of one political party that is not supported by ALL of Lebanon. These types of pictures are the reason the Lebanese population is fragmented.

I'm not saying Hezbollah followers are like this, for followers on all sides of the political spectrum tend to do this, supporting their party at the expense of their country and national unity.

They have tried it on Arafat and his Fatah, Hanieh and his Hamas to a perfection and now they are ready to demonstrate it once again on your Hezb. Note: you still do NOT have your electricity grid restored since 2006, although Hizb promised to rebuild and restore the effect of war..
