Geagea: Arms Have Never Advanced One Sect over Another in Lebanon

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea noted on Friday that weapons will not advance the position of Shiites in Lebanon.

He said: “Arms have never advanced one sect over another in Lebanon.”

He made his statements during a Maarab dinner in honor of Jbeil municipality heads.

Geagea added: “Shiites are a main component of Lebanon and they will remain so through the will of God, not Hizbullah.”

“Shiites enjoy a special role in Lebanon through their hard political work and not the weapons,” he stressed.

He therefore accused Hizbullah of seeking to control the Shiite sect.

“A resistance in Lebanon is useless without the support of the entire Lebanese people,” he continued.

“We all know that the people’s unity is the most important factor in a country’s confrontation with a foreign assault,” noted the LF chief.

“If we want a real resistance, then we should place it under the control of the state,” he stressed.

The March 14-led opposition has long been critical of Hizbullah’s weapons, which it has deemed as illegitimate.

It has repeatedly demanded that the party’s arms should be the only topic of discussion at the national dialogue.

Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has meanwhile voiced his party’s readiness to resume the dialogue as long as no preconditions are placed.

He is right in some of the points, Lebanese Shiites do not get work permits anymore in the UAE, and even the ones who expire do not get renewed. Bahrain is the same, others are getting tougher and will follow for sure. Many families have been asked to leave, and left jobless. Well done Hassan, keep them at home, this will increase the number of your fighters.

Flame, you purposely ignore the fact ONLY ONE SECT IS ARMED, and that is not sectarian? So according to your logic, sectarian domination of power is ok, but sectarian talk about it is bad and evil, oooo you gotta hate Geagea, he's bad and let's all forget logic?

And by the way you are the divider, you are the sectarian baiter, you are saying LF supporting Lebanese have a different DNA than other Lebanese.

Flame Thrower loves the FL and praises the achievements of the Aoun's ministers who slowly but surely are drowning the country in the abyss.
Opinions are like a-- holes, everyone has got one. Cursing the FL is in his DNA.

@FT
We missed your enlightened comments in regard what the syrian ambassador had to say about the killing of the new TV photographer!
why is that? is it also sectarian?

In 1987, when the Shiites were split between Amal and Hezbollah, Geagea's Lebanese Forces transferred weapons to Hezbollah in order to fight Amal, since Amal was backed by Syria, and at the time Syria didn't have as close ties to Hezbollah as they do now.

Of course, this was the civil war. But at the end of the day, all sects have weapons. If one sect had decided to defend itself, this is the problem of the state, because the state failed to do its job, which is to protect the people. The people took matters to themselves.

Therefore, it is the role of the state to prove to the Lebanese that it can defend its people, or else the people will continue to hold its weapons.

i donot want geagea to die , because i will miss his stupidity :) And then after his death the Sunna will not have any leader to represent them cuz geagea nowadays is their leader .. Do not miss understand me but iam very very happy that M14 people got leaders like geagea-harriri-sami & nadim ... These what so called '' leaders'' will not be remembered in the history of the universe.

I never was a Geagea fan and he may have done strocies things during the war like all our warlords have done. Truth be told though, he is the only one making sense these days bar none. Proof of that is the assassination attempt against him. Some one thinks his rhettoric is harmful to them and he is now important enough to matter.

Reaction to the user "shi3i":

No problem if they do not get remembered in history. Hitler, Mao, Mussolini, Stalin, Franco, Saddam, Qaddafi, Hafiz Assad and Khomeini are well remembered in history. That your new leaders Bashar and Nasrallah will take the same place in history as those filth, is not something to be proud of!

ANYONE who fought the foreign occupation of the land is a hero in every TRUE Lebanese eye, The one who was shot in the arm during the civil war and almost lost a part of his body(GeaGea) is a real Lebanese hero, they have attempted again with another sniper weapon and one day every anti-Syrian political figure will pass away unfortunately if they remain in Lebanon, our security system has been exploited and has cancer (i.e. Elimination of Hajj and Eid), it would take a lot of work to clean up the system and go back to a strong Lebanese Army that once was capable to deter the zionists from thinking about invading the south or the Syrians from entering the Northern and Bekaa frontiers to harass the border towns and kill innocent fishermen, and TV reporters, until then enjoy the ride and stay alive to become the real hero.

How does Geagea know that weapons used in self-defense have been useless? What evidence does he have? In the last conflict, the Druze quickly ended the battle by the decisive use of arms. If it was not for those Druze fighters, Hezbullah would now have complete control of Lebanon. I'm not Druze, but I can see the obvious.
