Hamadeh Says MPs to Question Cabinet over Electricity Decision
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةMP Marwan Hamadeh revealed on Friday that the electricity crisis will be discussed during the parliamentary session set to hold a general discussion in April to assess the governments’ performance.
Hamadeh told An Nahar newspaper that the lawmakers will call for a vote of confidence on Energy Minister Jebran Bassil for “violating laws approved a couple of months ago but weren’t implemented.”
The head of the parliamentary energy committee, MP Mohammed Qabbani, slammed the cabinet’s decision concerning the electricity crisis, noting that it “is illegal because it violates the electricity law that calls for the establishment of the electricity regulatory body.”
“Any decision taken in the absence of the electricity regulatory body is illegal, and the cabinet will be held responsible through all the possible democratic means,” Qabbani told An Nahar.
The cabinet agreed Wednesday to lease the power-generating vessels for a maximum of three years to produce 270 megawatts and to construct power plants of 1,500-megawatt capacity.
Lebanon has long suffered from electricity outages because of shortages at its power plants whose maximum capacity is less than 1,500 megawatts but the country’s actual need exceeds 2,300 megawatts.
it seems to me that whenever anyone stresses for proper procedures to be followed, there are stupid comments that pop out like this one from JCamerican.
FYI, the reason the regulatory body should be created is to avoid kickbacks to anyone and have people with knowledge and experience in the said sector to take the correct technical decisions.
so having a safeguard as for us not to be ripped off is bad now????
You had been without electricity for years, and you want to talk about procedures. Fill out an application please. Next.
hahahahaha...
The only one in touch with the Israelis is Michel Aoun!
The truth will come out!
to the illeterate FT:
the regulatory committe is part of the electricity law that was voted 5 months ago. so all your bla bla to say nothing is worthless.
this is a committee of experts that should supervise the whole thing.
how can it be wrong to haveexperts on behalf of the lebanese people and government supervising these projects wrong?
more stupidity and blindness from FT!!
this committee should have been appointed by your beloved minister 3 months ago by law, and he is refusing to do so :)
Fabrikante Marwan Hamadeh, one of the rare great minds that Lebanon has ever known, prepared a list of clever and deeply scientific questions to the cabinet re. the electricity decision. Sources close to Fabrikante leaked a few of these questions:
How much bakhshish will Jumblat get in order to facilitate the approval of any plans?
Another question might threaten the very existence of the cabinet, and it is:
Will any of the vessels dock in Mukhtara or Baaqleen?
A third question that might threaten the climate in the region, is:
If the power generating plants will be rehabilitated, will potatoes be allowed to be grown inside the plants or just around the perimeter?
As we can see, the session is expected to be very explosive thanks to great thinkers and people who care a lot about nothing but their own petty interests as Fabrikante Marwan Hamadeh. Long live these embodiments of filth. Hurrah, hurrah, hurrah.
Haram these people they are lost for sure...We should pray for them so they could find their way.
we all agree that most lebanese politicians 8 or 14 are in it for the money. Why would anyone object to a regulatory agency to oversee what the heck these politicians are doing with the publics money. comming from hamadeh or others what difference does it make. where is the islah will taghyeer. This country will never change with the same old dinosaurs rotating in power.
is it now 16 billion dollars stolen?..... wow! thanks filth thrower (aouni paid mouthpiece) for this info.... you really are valuable on this blog coz without you, we will not know what is happening in our country. Thanks again.......
If you observe well when they talk they talk about themselves it is like a mirror a relfection of their nature...For example when they say Bassil is taking 'commission' it reflects their usual ways of doing things, the 11B one of their scandals...
the why now question is explained above.
stop just defending your learders blindly without even understanding the matter at hand.
just to be precise 16 billion the last 5 years, it's much much more if we go back to 1992. Imagine that LAte Rafic Harriri (owner of this site)began his carreer as PM with a personnal fortune of 2 billion USD and died with 16 Billion while the country had seen his public debt increased by 30 Billion. M14 do the math
all of us supporting M14 on this site have always said that we are to pursue and jail anyone who has embezzled our money, and when someone is found guilt, then we will support jailing him. but instead of just accusing others blindly with no proof, present your case.
but you M8 guys refuse to even have guidelines, you are blind to all the stealing going on by your supposed leaders, and defend them blindly: you deserve to be led by such thieves.
but you are an aouni, are you not? you ashamed of your affiliation? I mean we still love you FT.... don't be so sensitive:) it's ok to be aouni and paid.....
you are so wrong: I never defend any of these politicians, but I always ask for proofs not just words.
your FPM ministers and MPs just accuse saying they have files, while they fail to produce any evidence whatsoever, which makes their accusations ....
until I see real proofs, all this is just stupid accusations. if they have proofs let them put them on the table.
listen to yourself.... just listen to yourself!!! do you know that in 2012 lebanon's expenditures are estimated at around 15 billion, and you say "Saniora" and his allies stole 16 billion a few years ago? How did you live you demented creature for the last few years? Are you saying they stole almost 30% of expenses assuming the money was stolen over 3 years? are you normal....seriously! Even your mini-man of general is not saying these amounts were stolen, but rather they were not subjected to prudent fiscal practices! You dare to go where your general did not even dare to go! You are all knowing self centered ego maniac which is evident from every single post here..... maskeen!
Well Geha, regarding the issue at hand:
A regulatory committee is a good thing however it will be linked to the PM? In that case the guy will become a non elected king having most of the countries sectors related to him, this is totally against the spirit of Taef and of the Lebanese political traditions.
Secondly when Mr HAmadeh was in charge of the telcom sector he manged to give the exclusivity of the DSL to his son with the help of the regulatory committee Ogero, so it’s really not a good protection.
Thirdly the committee regulations were presented 10 days ago to the cabinet, so Bassil did his homework regardless the M14 are still questioning him, don’t u think it’s just propaganda and of the lowest kind?
I do ot know to whom it should be linked to, but the law is the law, or not ?? again stupid comment
as well, before accusing anyone show the proof......
these re pure speculations: we need a proof, and we will put the culprits in jail together.
