Gas Stations to Hold Strike on Thursday over Officials’ Failure to Meet their Demands

The petroleum sector in Lebanon is expected to hold a strike on Thursday, reported the daily An Nahar on Saturday.

The strike will be held as a warning to officials over their failure to properly tackle the price of oil since 2002.

The decision was taken after a meeting of the Gas Station Owners Syndicate headed by Sami al-Brax and officials from the gasoline sector, which was attended by the head of the Association of Petroleum Importing Companies Maroun Shammas.

The gatherers said that the meeting tackled the failure to alter the prices of oil since 2002 in a manner that takes into consideration the increase in the price of manufacturing oil and the wage hikes in Lebanon in 2008 and 2012.

They added that gas stations will close down on Thursday and therefore no diesel or gasoline will be sold throughout Lebanon.

The Association of Petroleum Importing Companies has also voiced its solidarity with the gatherers, saying that oil companies will not provide petroleum to the market on Thursday.
