New explosives shipment seized, this time on a 'donkey'

The Lebanese Army seized over the past few hours a shipment containing 200 kilograms of C-4 explosives being transported on a donkey crossing the mountains between Syria and Lebanon, a judicial source told MTV.

The Lebanese Army later issued an official statement saying its units “continue to carry out missions to monitor and secure the Lebanese-Syrian border in order to prevent smuggling and illegal infiltration attempts.”

“In this context, an army unit in the al-Qasr area in Hermel seized approximately 200 kilograms of explosive materials packed inside bags and prepared for smuggling from Syrian territory into Lebanese territory. The smugglers fled back into Syrian territory,” the army added.

“The seized items were handed over to the competent authorities, and follow-up and coordination are underway to arrest those involved," it said.

The development comes a few days after hundreds of kilograms of explosives were seized at the Dahr al-Baidar checkpoint while being transported in a car by two suspected Hezbollah members.

It also comes after the army seized another shipment of explosives on Syria’s border.

I blame the Israeli schools. But it does raise the question of powdered C-4. Maybe the white powder is fertilizer as was used in the Beirut blast. Ammonium nitrate has explosive properties as well as agricultural uses.

"Good Job!" to the LAF. Without any over-generalizing from this one case, we all can be proud of the boys in green for doing the hard work of asserting the sovereignty of the Republic. That isn't easy on a good day; and these days are perhaps especially difficult for maintaining a clear vision of where the Republic's "might" should be demonstrating where "right" is. And isn't.
