Joint Saudi-American diplomacy reduced Lebanon escalation, report says

W460

Joint Saudi-American diplomatic efforts over the past 24 hours have succeeded in de-escalating tensions in southern Lebanon following direct U.S. engagement with Israel, local media reported.

U.S. sources told al-Jadeed that meetings between American and Saudi officials focused on the Lebanese file, with Riyadh backing the Lebanese government's demands to secure a permanent solution.

A separate report published Wednesday in Asharq al-Awsat newspaper said that President Joseph Aoun had intensively urged U.S. officials to press Israel into halting its military campaign.

According to ministerial sources close to the president, Washington responded by contacting Israeli officials to contain the escalation in southern Lebanon.

The diplomatic outreach involved U.S. Ambassador to Beirut Michel Issa, alongside Lebanese Ambassador to Washington Nada Hamadeh Moawad, the daily said.

But where is Iran?

Meanwhile Iran proxies told the president indirectly that they are going to attack Israel at the right time. So again for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Netanyahu's destruction of flimsy temporary structures on a hundred or do illegal settlements in the West Bank tells us exactly how influence work in the region. Israel is not the gaggle in Palestine with F-35's, etc. It is a gangster combine sprawling across the world. Netanyahu feels some pressure from his bosses to improve his optics, so he does something (assuming he went ahead and did it) that settlers will need a few hours to rectify. You cannot negotiate with gangsters except from a position of strength. The successful negotiator who brings peace to the region is finding that the first job is to force Israel to get organized, so it can agree to something and carry out its commitments. Until then, Brent reaches 102 dollars, US ten-year-bond yield reaches 3.84. I see on Yahoo (Israel-aligned) the Fortune magazine headline: "Canada chose to hurt its economy to spite Trump". Once you accept what you're up against, the rest is child's play.

How does that fit together with my other claim that Israel is a suicide cult? There's no future in crime.
