The Israeli army confirmed Friday that an officer was moderately injured and an officer and two soldiers were lightly injured in a clash overnight with a Hezbollah militant in south Lebanon.

Israeli media reports said the Hezbollah fighter hurled a hand grenade at the Israelis.

Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling targeted the southern town of Beit Yahoun during and after the incident.

An Israeli drone strike also hit a car in the southern town of Maifadoun overnight, killing two people and wounding one, as warplanes fired two missiles Friday morning on the outskirts of the southern town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa.

A lull in fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah that started Sunday has begun to show cracks, after Israel increased its attacks in south Lebanon against suspected Hezbollah militants.

Lebanon’s health ministry said Thursday that three people were killed by an Israeli strike on a car in southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah has called the recent strikes a ceasefire violation but has not retaliated. The Israeli military said Thursday that it fired on two separate groups it suspected of being Hezbollah members. The strikes came as Lebanese and Israeli officials were in Washington discussing a proposed phased withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon.
