President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday welcomed the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, calling the agreement a "very good thing," but said he wishes it will include Lebanon.

"We expect, in the coming days and weeks, that it will be fully respected throughout the region and will allow negotiations to take place," Macron said at the start of a meeting of top defense and security officials.

"Our wish is to ensure that the ceasefire fully includes Lebanon," he added.

Spain's foreign minister also said it was "unacceptable" that Israel continued its invasion of Lebanon after the United States and Iran agreed a two-week ceasefire to halt the regional war.

"All fronts must cease, and all fronts also means Lebanon. It is unacceptable that Israel's war, Israel's invasion of a sovereign country like Lebanon... continues," Jose Manuel Albares told public radio RNE.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez welcomed the U.S.-Iran ceasefire as "good news" on X but said Spain would not "applaud those who set fire to the world because they show up with a bucket".

Germany for its part called on Israel to limit its campaign in Lebanon to "self-defense".
