Miqati Accepts Nahhas’ Resignation
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةPrime Minister Najib Miqati formally received from the “Change and Reform” bloc the resignation of Labor Minister Charbel Nahhas.
Miqati’s media office stated that “After consultations between the Prime Minister and the President, the resignation of Labor Minister Charbel Nahhas has been accepted.”
PM Miqati had received Energy Minister Gebran Bassil who gave him Nahhas’ resignation from the cabinet.
The resigned Labor Minister had stated earlier Wednesday during a meeting with demonstrators who gathered outside his home in solidarity with him that “the issue was beyond political alignments.”
“We have great hopes that we will breach all party blocs and stop having the country ruled by gangs.”
Nahhas had given his resignation to Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun on Tuesday.
The transportation allowance decree was at the center of a dispute between Miqati and Nahhas, who refused to sign the decision for allegedly being “illegal.”
Local newspapers had said that the labor minister, who is loyal to Aoun, was expected to sign on Tuesday the controversial transportation allowance decree, averting a three-week crisis.
Aoun had said after the Change and Reform bloc’s weekly meeting: “The dispute over the transportation allowance is now between us and Nahhas.”
“The government no longer has anything to do with the dispute and we have taken our time in handling the issue in order to preserve the rights of employers and employees,” he explained.
“We thank him for his service and high competency in his work,” added the MP.
“His circumstances no longer allow him to continue on working with us,” Aoun continued.
The FPM leader recounted the developments that led to Nahhas’ resignation, saying that two days before the government approved the wage hike, the Shura Council had convened to eliminate a number of illegal laws.
admins come on guys some comments are appearing almost twenty four hours after they were posted that's beyond ridiculous
Must have been A hard call for miqati to make. Nahhas is such a great politician with so much love for his country. Like his master aoun. Too bad they can't be in their country Syria. Hey nahhas take bassil with you!
Great principles, but what has he ever done for his country? how can he justify his minister's salary he has received over the last few years? What great legacy has he left behind at the telecoms or in the latest office? You can apply the same to all of the March 8th clowns, they are unable and unwilling to govern or to add any value..
oh shut up minlibnan.... congrats, this is the stupidest post ever made on naharnet... good job, now you can sleep better
Couldn't be timed better- as soon as the UN extends the STL mandate is extended without a convened cabinet. What a farce!
bravo naharnet great job encouraging illiterate brain damaged morons like jabalamel and his zionist spies infested bee2at al hadinat to use a computer instead of leaving them to wallow in their own filth where hassan like to keep them
using your brain cells could only lead to one conclusion based on Nahas stating: “We have great hopes that we will breach all party blocs and stop having the country ruled by gangs.”
The conclusion is that Nahas has called Aoun and the FPM bloc a bunch of gangs! Afterall, they got rid of him and decided to return to the cabinet after the order came from bachar and hasan. another lost battle for the demented general!
To survive Lebanese politics you got to shed any principles you have and learn how to swim with the sharks. Once upon a time there was an honest and smart man who did a lot in the short period he was interior minister and wanted to do a lot more if they let him. Instead they booted him out, his name was Ziad Barood. I feel bad for Lebanon and the Lebanese.
What is next? FPM is not a political bloc, it is a circus... With one too many clowns.
Jabalamel please let us know who's the bright looking person on your picture: Last time you said it wasn't your mum...Could it be one of your many possible dads?
Basically Aoun is saying Nahas did the right thing, and he supports him not signing the decree under his circumstances (because it is illegal) ... however the Change and Reform bloc pushed an illegal comprimise - therefore this is Aoun sacrificing a pawn in the game in order to achieve something bigger
First Ziad Baroud now Charbel Nahhas two great brilliant ministers that our country needs...gone!
