Caretaker Inrterior Minister Bassam Mawlawi on Monday announced that there were no “partisan motives” behind the abduction and killing of Lebanese Forces member Elias Hasrouni in the southern town of Ain Ebel.

“The investigations are ongoing and strife will be prevented through the enforcement of the law,” Mawlawi said after a meeting for the Central Internal Security Council.

As for the deadly Kahale incident, Mawlawi said “security forces acted in Kahale in a way that protected citizens and civil peace.”

“We stress full readiness for following up on the developments and protecting citizens and the incidents that happened are being investigated according to norms by the security authorities under the supervision of the judicial authorities,” the minister added.

Mawlawi also called on politicians not to harm civil peace with their statements, while reassuring that Palestinian refugee camps, especially Ain el-Helweh, “will not be allowed to disrupt security in any Lebanese region.”
