FPM MP says 'now clear' that FPM not part of any alignment
"It has become clear that the Free Patriotic Movement is not taking part in any alignment," FPM MP Salim Aoun said Tuesday, in a tweet.
The tweet came after Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah openly named Suleiman Franjieh as its presidential candidate.
“The natural candidate that we back in the presidential elections and has the specifications that we take into consideration is minister Suleiman Franjieh,” Nasrallah said in a speech during a rally honoring the group's wounded fighters.
Nasrallah added that Hezbollah’s declared support for Franjieh does not mean that the party is “giving up the MoU with the FPM", stressing that Hezbollah is keen on the MoU and the friendship with the FPM.
The FPM opposes the election of Franjieh and its chief Jebran Bassil had said that the FPM will not endorse the presidential nomination of Franjieh, even if all other parties agree on him.
Simply Wake up and smell the coffee. Now after 6 yrs you are coming to tell us that Shia did not endorse Aoun and help him be the mutual president. You should have known LONG TIME AGO this fact.
It is conspicuous that Bassil is employing a duplicitous strategy to achieve his desired outcome of having the international sanctions against him lifted. However, his intentions remain unmasked, as his unwavering allegiance to Hezbollah is an open secret. The longstanding pact between GB and Hezbollah is indicative of their deep-rooted partnership, which transcends mere political affiliation and presidential ventures into the realm of shared ideology and beliefs.
The implications of Bassil's association with Hezbollah are manifold and far-reaching,the ramifications of this connection are significant.
In light of this, it is imperative that the international community remains vigilant and holds Bassil accountable for his actions. Any attempts to undermine the sanctions or disregard international norms and regulations must be met with firm and decisive action. Only through a united and resolute approach can we ensure the stability and security of Lebanon and the Middle East.
