Presidential void may last till 2024; Berri still betting on consensus

The ongoing presidential vacuum might last for more than a year due to the political deadlock, a senior official told al-Joumhouria newspaper in remarks published Tuesday.

Credible sources meanwhile told the daily that Speaker Nabih Berri has not given up on consensus despite the complications.

“Although he will not launch any initiative at the moment, he has not surrendered to the stalemate, seeing as the efforts are ongoing and the contacts have not stopped,” the sources said.

“The parliament speaker is keeping the door open to the launch of a serious drive in this regard at any given moment,” the sources added.
