Israel Shells South Lebanon after Rocket Attack

W460

Israel fired artillery shells into southern Lebanon on Wednesday after two rockets landed in the Israeli settlement of Kiryat Shmona near Lebanon's border.

"Three rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israeli territory," the Israeli army said in a statement, adding that one had fallen short of the border.

"In response... artillery forces fired into Lebanese territory."

The rockets hit near the northern Israeli settlement of Kiryat Shmona, where air raid sirens sent residents into bomb shelters.

Israeli medics distributed images of a bush fire and said they treated four people suffering "stress symptoms."

The Israeli army said it had imposed no restrictions on civilians in northern areas.

The Israeli shelling sparked a blaze in Lebanon's Khiyam Plain. The rocket attack also caused a fire in Kiryat Shmona.

The head of civilian security for Israel’s northern Galilee region told army radio that the rockets hit in peak tourism season.

"This was a surprise to us, but not something we didn't think could happen," he said.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said he and Defense Minister Benny Gantz had been "briefed" on developments and were overseeing Israel's response.

Shortly after the Bennett-Gantz meeting, the Israeli army started shelling areas along the border in a fiercer way.

In the meantime, Aoun constantly reminds us that Lebanon is full compliance with UN resolution 1701.

We should beg Israel to come and annihilate Huzbullah once and for all so that we could live in peace in Lebanon. Then, Lebanon would be forced to have peace agreement with Israel, and there would be no need for this devilish faction to claim that we still have rights that necessitate the importance of weapons in Lebnaon for Huzbullah. Not that such weapons would ever be used against Israel, as Huzbullah knows that in seconds israel could delete it from the face of this earth. Not that we would be sad for that. This cancer needs to be extracted.

Excellent comment .... It shows you can process information in a logical manner and come to foregone conclusions.

Lebanon launched an unprovoked, albeit limited, attack against Israel and Israel responded. What's your issue?

He's saying one rocket does not count as an attack:)!

Excuse me, but where exactly are the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) who seem not to be carrying out their duty by making certain that the Republic of Lebanon fulfills its international legal undertakings with regards Resolution 1701.
If they can't or won't do it, then don't blame Israel for wanting to keep its territory free of terrorist attacks.

Thumb justin 04 August 2021, 16:44

The LAF have seconded their border duties to Hezbollah. They have no say in what happens in the South. The LAF are merely an instrument in the hands of the ruling mafia to suppress any uprising internally.

Well Lebanon is screwed I guess. People are still angry at government officials for the blast even though there is no government they all quit. Fighting is breaking out with security forces could be civil war. Economy is collapsing which started with wattsap tax, people going crazy, ponzi scheme bank etc. Might be a war with Israel as someone (could be sunni groups as they do this frequently and have access to rocket launchers) fired rockets at israel to instigate a war. A government can't be formed as noone can agree on anything. Armed groups everywhere not just Hezbollah. Looks like it's downhill from here lol.
