Iran Students Meet Israel Opposition Head Livni

A delegation from an opposition Iranian student group met Israel's centrist opposition leader and former foreign minister Tzipi Livni in Tel Aviv on Saturday.

An Agence France Presse photographer said the Confederation of Iranian Students delegation was headed by its secretary general, Amir Abbas Fakhravar, who said he was "happy to be in Israel, the only democracy in the region."

The CIS, founded in the United States, says it has 8,000 members, mostly in Iran, America, Britain, France and Germany, although it has no branches in the Islamic republic.

Livni, in a statement issued by her Kadima party, said she hoped the visit would help show that "Israel only has a problem with the leaders of Iran and not with the Iranian people."

Israel accuses arch-foe Iran, whose President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has repeatedly predicted the destruction of the Jewish state, of pursuing a nuclear weapons program, a charge denied by Tehran.

"Israel, the only democracy in the region"? Lebanon has been a democratic state before Israel was even created. Dillusional Zoinist propaganda.

Lebanon a democractic state?? I just love the way they treat the palestinians in refuggee camps there. Makes living under israeli occupation almost like a vacation!

@ Ado.autralia, Im not defending Israel, but they are handling their country way better than us, they at least have good roads, laws, and no state within the state. And people in power can be judged unlike in Lebanon. And yes Lebanon is not a democracy since 43, it has been a farm where all the foreigners, from USA, Syrian to Iranian have their say and control our political scene.

@ Jana, how about how they were treated in Jordan? bombed by the King abdullah and his son Abdullah 2 back then. Or even in Syria? erased by the thousands with tanks just as they are doing now with their own people. I can remind you that palestinians can go live if they want wherever they want, but they agreed to come to Lebanon. If you are happy under Zionist occupation, then its your choice.Stealing other's land then giving them food and water in order to survive without dignity is not a role example of true democracy.

@ jana, by the way, you should blame Arabs as well, like KSA and other gulf countries, which dispose of huge wealth, a lot of opportunities of work for palestinians. As well not to forget that they are both sunnites, so no religious conflicts. Why didnt they do that? oh i guess you know the answer maybe, because nobody gives a damn about the palestinians anymore unfortunately, but dont put up Lebanon as the sole country not giving them their rights, we have enough problem already with our people and our economy.
