Syrian National Council to Lebanese People: Agreements between Two Countries Must Be Revised

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

The Syrian National Council stressed on Wednesday that it seeks to establish strong ties between Syria and Lebanon that respect the sovereignty and independence of each country.

It said in an open letter to the Lebanese people: “To this end, the Lebanese-Syrian Higher Council should be dissolved and agreements between the two countries should be revised.”

“The revision should establish new agreements that take into consideration the interests of both states,” it continued.

The council said that these goals can be achieved once the Syrian revolution is successful and the ruling regime is overthrown.

Furthermore, it said that “proper diplomatic representation between Lebanon and Syria should be established.”

The Syrian National Council said that other pending issues between the two sides, such as the demarcation of the border, especially the Shabaa Farms, would be addressed.

In addition, it pledged to end the “security-intelligence role that has meddled in Lebanese affairs and thwart the smuggling of arms across the border that has made Lebanon an open ground that does not meet the requirements of an independent state.”

It also proposed the formation of a joint investigation committee that would tackle the case of Lebanese prisoners in Syrian jails.

“A free, independent, and democratic Syria recognizes Lebanon as a sovereign state,” it continued.

“It looks forward to pursuing joint projects in various fields where neither side would interfere in the affairs of the other,” it added.

“The two countries consider their religious and ethnic diversity a unique characteristic that they pledge to defend,” it stressed.

“Given these factors, and in respect to the Taif Accord, Syria looks forward to pursuing joint democratic work with Lebanon in order to tackle the pending affairs,” said the council.

“Democracy in Syria is the best support for Lebanon’s independence,” it noted.

“It is an opportunity to put an end to the dark chapter of Lebanese-Syrian ties that have been marred by Syria’s dictatorial regime that has practiced the ugliest forms of meddling and hegemony,” it stressed.

That means no more political murder in Lebanon at the hands of the ASSad's, and no more arms transport to the Hezz for its evil intentions.

How can you preach to the Syrian and Arab world A FREE INDEPRNDANT AND DEMOCRATIC Syria, when you know your council whose makeup is of Moslem brotherhood and MArxist political parties who don't beleive in DEMOCRACY

This Syrian National Council is an embarassment to the Syrian people! First they praise the Saudi Tyrant King. Now, they mention the Lebanese missing in Syria, WITHOUT MENTIONING the over 1300 Syrian Nationals missing in Lebanon (800 between 1975-91 and 500 between 2005 to 2011). This message seems to be paid for by M14 (or Saudis for M14). Are they that dumb for not thinking that the Syrian people have forgotten the Syrian Nationals missing in Lebanon??? I love to see the Baath regime replaced but not by these clowns. They will not last in power for one day, and who will replace them ???!.

Isn't Hezbollah going to be a wee bit peeved about this?

Abraham, Marxists (like myself) do believe in Democracy (unlike Marxists-Leninists). The majority of Marxists in Syria would like to see the Baath regime overthrown, but not by these Saudi owned puppets.

The SNC better stay true to their word.

I prefer the monkey I know then the new ones with salafis and brotherhood in their ranks.

So now the warriors of Hariri Mafia and his Christian Sunnis do not feel insulted by another band of Syrian delusional jerks telling them what they should and should not revise and do. YA 3EIN YA ARAGON WA YA GABBY WA YA DAL3ONA!!!

SNC will respect Lebanese sovereignty like Egypt respects Palestinian sovereignty. Like how Olmert announced the "war" on Gaza from Cairo, the SNC will allow the Israeli PM of the time to announce the next "war" on Lebanon from Damascus. Enjoy your sovereignty, douchebags!

Whether it is true or false, at least they are giving a hint that they would not touch Lebanon. I mean after this whole thing is over in Syria, do you really think they will have time to do us any harm ? they need years and years to regroup their people and build up a new political system. So i think it is worth it giving them their shot. Its a risk maybe, but we saw Assad regime's promises for 30 years. Let them be , either way we will have to deal with them once everything is finished there. @ Abraham and arzz, Salafis and brotherhood are not the best option, but it is their people's choice. Our end of the deal is keep Lebanon sovereign and as long as they dont interfere in our affairs, it is not our business who runs Syria

Thumb arzz 26 January 2012, 08:24

I take Bashar and HA over brotherhood and salafis any day of my life. I hope he keeps on kicking their butt.

As long as NATo and your israeli buddies are not willing to lose thousands of their soldiers then I say Bashar and HA rule. simple fact. And even if they were willing to then also no guarantee that they achieve any meaninngful objective.

Thumb arzz 26 January 2012, 08:27

oh and sanctions won't work unless they sanction Lebanon, and Iraq, else all of Syria's transactions will go through either port.

Default-user-icon karim (Guest) 26 January 2012, 09:23

i can't believe some Lebanese are willing to trade Lebanon's sovereignty for their's zo3ama's and party's gains
very sad indeed

Thumb rover98 26 January 2012, 11:12

Assad is the one who is responsible for prolonging the Lebanon civil war by his divide and rule policy and his inability to face Isreal head on. We are still paying the price 20 years on.

the group of hallucinatory people who think they will rule syria is making hallucinatory statements about future events that will not happen.

and the hallucinatory zionist information war department came on naharnet forums to add their hallucinations to the previous ones.

Just as a reality reminder for those persons who were not around 30 years ago when there was an uprising in Syria. The economy is much better now than 30 years ago. Syria has good trade with China, Malaysia and other rising Asian countries. 30 years ago, the Syrian regime was also cut off from Turkey, the West, and Western Arab puppet tyrants. Syria was cut off from Saddam's Iraq 30 years ago...not now. 30 years ago, it lasted longer and more persons were killed than now.

first item of business - modify school geography books to show Lebanon as an idependant country and not a provence of Syria!

May Bashar Assad burn in hell. I want to visit Syria to urinate on his grave and on his father's grave.
